The Archie Comics universe is taking over a new town: NYC! The Riverdale [1]'s spinoff series Katy Keene is officially coming to BBC iPlayer on 25 July, and from the looks of it, it's going to be big fun! The musical dramedy will "chronicle the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway, and in the recording studio." [2]
Ashleigh Murray will reprise her Riverdale character, Josie, in the new series [3] and Pretty Little Liars [4] actress Lucy Hale will be taking on the title role, but there are plenty more stars already lined up. Get familiar with the cast and the new characters they'll be playing ahead!
Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy
Riverdale [6]'s resident pussycat has been cast in the pilot, in which Josie will relocate to the big city to pursue her musical dreams. CW president Mark Pedowitz has confirmed that Katy Keene will take place a few years after the events of Riverdale [7], and Murray will be playing an older version of Josie [8]. However, if the show gets picked up, Josie will be leaving Riverdale.
Lucy Hale as Katy Keene
The Pretty Little Liars [9] alum will play the title role [10], a "bold, big-hearted, and independent [New Yorker] with dreams of being a fashion designer."
Camille Hyde as Alexandra Cabot
The American Vandal star has been cast to play Alexandra Cabot, "a powerful, savvy and chic New York socialite." Alexandra and her twin brother Alexander will be familiar to Archie comics fans, as well as anyone who giggled over Missi Pyle's knowing performance of the character in the 2001 movie Josie and the Pussycats, when she uttered the immortal line, "I'm here because I was in the comic book."
Lucien Laviscount as Alexander Cabot
British actor and Scream Queens heartthrob Laviscount will play Alexandra's twin brother, Alexander Cabot, "the CEO of his father's company who dreams of rebooting its dormant record label division." [11]
Zane Holtz as Ko Kelly
The actor, who previously starred on From Dusk Till Dawn, will play Katy's longtime boyfriend in the series [12]. Ko is a boxer who is described as "a humble, protective, salt-of-the-earth guy who makes ends meet as a personal trainer and a bouncer."
Katherine LaNasa as Gloria Grandbilt
The Dynasty actress will play Gloria [13], "a legendary personal shopper" at the department store Lacy's.
