Katy Keene TV Show Details

A Riverdale Spinoff Is Coming, and Lucy Hale is Playing the Title Character

The Archie Comics TV universe is about to get even bigger, as The CW has ordered a pilot of a new show inspired by the comics. This time, it's fashion guru Katy Keene who's getting the TV treatment. If you love the musical episodes of Riverdale this is the show for you: it will take the action to New York City, with Variety describing it as a "musical dramedy [that] chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio."

Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's showrunner Roberto Aguirre Sacasa will once again take the helm, alongside Michael Grassi (who's also written for Riverdale). It's expected to be tonally different to both Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, with the "dramedy" description suggesting it'll be lighter and more fun. As the show is set to air on The CW (the same as Riverdale) this also opens up some exciting possibilities for the kind of crossover we didn't see with Sabrina. One Riverdale character is already set to appear in the show.

If the pilot is picked up, the show should air later this year. Keep reading to find out who's on board already.

Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy

Riverdale's resident pussycat has been cast in the pilot, in which Josie will relocate to the big city to pursue her musical dreams. CW president Mark Pedowitz has confirmed that Katy Keene will take place a few years after the events of Riverdale, and Murray will be playing an older version of Josie. However, if the show gets picked up, Josie will be leaving Riverdale.

Camille Hyde as Alexandra Cabot

American Vandal star Camille has been cast to play Alexandra Cabot, "a powerful, savvy and chic New York socialite." Alexandra and her twin brother Alexander will be familiar to Archie comics fans, as well as anyone who giggled over Missi Pyle's knowing performance of the character in the 2001 movie Josie and the Pussycats, when she uttered the immortal line, "I'm here because I was in the comic book."

Lucien Laviscount

British actor and Scream Queens heartthrob Lucien will play Alexandrea's twin brother, Alexander Cabot, "the CEO of his father's company who dreams of rebooting its dormant record label division".

The Pretty Little Liars alum will play the title role, a "bold, big-hearted, and independent [New Yorker] with dreams of being a fashion designer."
