Lil Nas X Song "Panini"

Lil Nas X's Mesmerising "Panini" Video Has Me in a 2-Minute Trance

Lil Nax X has the horses in the back and . . . a panini in the front? On Thursday, the 20-year-old rapper released a new song titled "Panini" from his upcoming 7 EP, which will also feature the Billy Ray Cyrus remix of "Old Town Road" and songs from Lil Nas X's self-released 2018 project NASARATI.

While the song's official music video has yet to be released, the mesmerising audio video features animations of Lil Nas X and an unnamed woman in a futuristic world created by animator Blake Kathryn, and I've already watched it 20 times.

If you think the "Panini" melody sounds a little familiar, you're not alone. Apparently, Lil Nas X himself didn't even realise what other song had influenced "Panini" until it was already written. "One of the craziest things about 'Panini' is it introduced me to Nirvana's album Nevermind," he said in an interview with Apple Music's Beats 1. "It's like I always seen the cover but I never actually listened to it. And people was like, 'Wow, he sampled Nirvana.' I was like, 'No, I didn't realise I was using almost the exact same melody." Lil Nas X eventually ended up crediting Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain on Apple Music.

According to Lil Nas X, the song gets its title from Panini, one of the main characters on the Cartoon Network show Chowder, who's so infatuated with the show's protagonist that she stops at nothing to try to win him over. The rapper says the rest of the album will follow a similar theme of feeling emotional and overwhelmed with all the changes that have happened in his life over the last year.
