If You Still Don't Recognise Mini Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia 2, Read This

The sequel to Mamma Mia! has an incredible soundtrack [1] and a cast to match. Lily James [2] plays Young Donna (the younger version of Meryl Streep [3]'s character) in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again [4]. The English actress stars alongside Amanda Seyfried [5], Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan [6], and Cher, which means she's in extremely good company. While you may know James from her years as Lady Rose MacClare on Downton Abbey [7], as well as the other TV shows, James will also grace the screen in the ABBA-filled musical (and, yes, she really sings in it [8]) and she has been in a whole bunch of other films.

Wrath of the Titans (2012)

This 2012 flick was James's first big-budget film role. The action fantasy film follows good vs. evil to rescue Zeus (Liam Neeson) and prevent Hades (Ralph Fiennes [9]) from wreaking havoc on the world.

Broken (2012)

Drama and romance clash in the story of a young girl who witnesses a violent attack that changes her life. James plays the older version of that girl, Skunk, in the coming-of-age film, and it's the kicking off point of her résumé of dramatic roles.

Fast Girls (2012)

The British film Fast Girls follows the story of an intense rivalry between young athletes — and they have their sights set on the World Championship! James plays Lisa Temple and revealed that she trained with Olympic athlete Jeanette Kwakye [10] to prepare for the film.

Cinderella (2015)

James sealed her name in Hollywood with her performance as Cinderella in the live-action film based off of the Disney classic. It takes quite a star to outshine evil stepmother Cate Blanchett [11], but she did it!

Burnt (2015)

Oh hey there, Bradley Cooper [12]! Burnt follows the story of a chef (Cooper) who destroys his career with drugs. James has a small part in the film as Sara, who watches on as Cooper's character tries to redeem himself in London's dining scene.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)

Who knew that 19th century England could be so damn eventful? James stars as Elizabeth Bennett, one of five sisters dealing with the pressures of marriage (sound familiar?) . . . and steering clear of zombies (maybe not so familiar).

The Exception (2016)

James kills it in historical films, and that includes The Exception! This World War II film follows a German soldier who must figure out if a spy has been planted. But in the process, he falls for James's character, Mieke de Jong, a Jewish girl. Think of it as Romeo and Juliet, but will much higher stakes.

Baby Driver (2017)

Anyone who gets to play Ansel Elgort [13]'s love interest is a person we are extremely jealous of. James plays Southern waitress Debora in the action crime film, which became a sleeper hit last year.

Darkest Hour (2017)

Things get intense in this thrilling story of how Winston Churchill, played by Gary Oldman, must decide whether to negotiate with Adolf Hitler or fight. Don't even think of looking at your phone while watching Darkest Hour. You're eyes will be glued to the film as James plays Churchill's secretary, Elizabeth Layton.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)

Picture it: an island off the French coast following World War II. James stars as a writer, Juliet Ashton, who is working on a book about her experiences during the war and finds herself connecting with Guernsey Island's locals. The Netflix original movie will be out on Aug. 10!

Little Woods (2018)

It's time to break the law. Just as Ollie, played by Tessa Thompson [14], is near the end of her probation, she partners with her sister Deb, played by James, to break the law to help North Dakota residents access Canadian health care. What could possibly go wrong? The indie ensemble film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year.
