The Best Bits from Love Island: Tommy's Cooking & New Girl Maura Turns Heads

15/06/2019 - 10:31 AM

This week on Love Island, early favourites Amy and Curtis begin to have some competition with new couple Amber and Michael. As for the other islanders? The tides are definitely turning. We had to say goodbye to Sherif (still awaiting that explanation! [1]) and hello to four new mates: influencer Molly-Mae Hague, model Danny Williams, grid girl Maura Higgins, and lash technician Elma Pazar.

Tommy finally got a break from his love triangle between Joe and Lucie when viewers awarded him with a hot tub date with Molly-Mae. The pair quickly hit it off, which led to Molly choosing Tommy for the re-coupling and Callum getting axed. The following morning, Tommy showed that he deserved the most airtime with some hilarious quips and questionable cooking skills.

Next up, Yewande and Amber were chosen for a date with newcomer Danny. It was Yewande's first date, and viewers were just as excited as she was for a connection. She and Danny seemed to hit it off, encouraging Amber to take her feelings for Michael more seriously.

Fans then began to turn on Molly-Mae because she started fancying Danny despite being coupled up with Tommy. But as the wise Curtis once said, "one day in here is one week out there", and things can change very quickly in the villa. With the addition of new girls Maura and Elma, Molly was left feeling unsure about where she stood with her boxing bev.

Read ahead for the 5 best bits from the second week of Love Island.

Tommy's Cooking, Vocabulary & Penchant for Shapes

Tommy's having a rough relationship with shapes this week, as he continuously finds himself in love triangles. First with Jucie, then Molly and Anton, and now it's getting hot between him, Molly, and new girl Maura.

Alongside his many triangles, Tommy shows off some pretty impressive use of words. In an effort to impress Molly-Mae, he described the breakfast as "very exquisite," and "the hypnosis of the situation. No, the diagnosis," was categorical. Right...

But what really won fans over was Tommy's absolute lack of cooking skills. After not knowing how to make a peppermint tea, he served up a very Fyre Festival-looking starter for Maura on their first date.

"Tall Is My Type" – Yewande, Molly-Mae, Amber, and Anna

It seems like most of the girls have one simple thing they're looking for in a man: height (big surprise). Yewande, Molly-Mae, and Amber all told new boy Danny that they're looking for a tall guy, while Anna has been seeking that from day dot.

Danny seemed to hit it off with Yewande instantly. Although fans are not totally convinced that the model has pure intentions for the sweet Irish scientist, their highly anticipated kiss got us beaming.

Amber also gained from her date with Danny by realising how strong her feelings are for Michael, and she decided to pursue something more serious with him (including their first kiss!)

Indecisive Molly-Mae also fell for Danny's strong-chinned charm, which made her quickly question her compatibility with Tommy. Molly-Mae's telling every other guy that they're her type made viewers disappointed with her lack of loyalty.

Sherif Leaves the Villa – "It Is what It Is."

Are the producers really going to add two new girls, give us some genius video edits, and throw the Sherif explanation under the rug? Not on our watch!

Sherif's supposed "rule breaking" was left unaddressed by Love Island producers, and fans are offering some theories of their own on Twitter.

Although the screenshot featured above is making the rounds online, the general consensus is that it's doctored. We've heard some crazy rumours this week as to why Sherif got axed, from seeing to himself in the hot tub to a fight with Anton, or maybe bringing contraband into the villa?

What's for sure is that they won't be releasing a longer statement anytime soon. It is what it is.

New Girl Maura Gets Heads Turning

Categorically the most intense moment this week goes to Molly-Mae and Maura battling it out for Tommy Fury's heart.

Maura entered the villa on full Factor 50, aggressively grafting Tommy without "giving a shite" that he was already coupled up with Molly. According to Maura, she doesn't have to ask anyone's permission to pursue an islander romantically. After all, that's why we're all here – right?

Molly was absolutely shook by Maura's fearless approach to getting what she wants, and so was the rest of the UK. The combination of Maura telling Tommy that she had "fanny flutters," asking him if Molly "turns you on like I do," and trying to force Tommy to kiss her has linked Maura with predatory behaviour.

Twitter reactions are calling a double standard. If Maura was a guy then she would already be kicked off the show for misconduct.

Jucie Gives Off Toxic Energy

Jucie (Joe + Lucie) are becoming less and less appealing to viewers. Although Twitter is generally annoyed by Amy's needy behaviour with Lucie, the softly spoken surfer consistently shows us that she doesn't make an effort to connect with the girls.

Amy tried sharing with Lucie that she missed spending time with her by saying, "You're always with your bloody boyfriend." The accusatory tone didn't go down well with Lucie, and Joe defensively (and rudely) told Amy to "F*ck off."

As much as fans were a bit torn as to which of the girls were in the wrong, the fact is that Lucie "finds it hard to stick up for [herself]." Without the support of the other girls and a full-on Joe basically telling Lucie that she's his girlfriend from day dot, we're wondering how long Jucie will be enjoying their lonely little love bubble.

Maybe if Lucie had a friend like Amber, she would know how to "stick up for herself" and not "let people like that walk all over you." Hasn't Amber turned into an absolute queen? We can't wait to see what's next on Sunday.
