After a long wait, Luther fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The BBC America fan-favourite police drama is returning with a fifth season. And even better? Idris Elba is officially reprising his titular role as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, our favourite badass with anger issues.

The brief teaser trailer above gives fans a hint of what to expect, which is apparently more of John getting beat up, as he usually does when he finds himself in scrapes while solving mysteries. The footage only shows John emerging from the shadows with a cut on his face as the words "THIS WILL HURT" flash on the screen, letting us know that this season is going to be as emotionally trying as we've come to expect from the show.

There's no premiere date for the upcoming season as of yet, but we'll be keeping out eye out for more information as time goes by! Until then, you can catch Luther's first four seasons on Netflix.
