There are so many things I want to praise about On My Block's second season. For instance, how the Netflix series deftly tackles tragedy after tragedy, including Ruby's grief. Or the adorable (and frustrating) ups and downs of Cesar and Monse's relationship. And let's not forget the shocking conclusion to the gang war that takes over the South Central neighbourhood, or the twist that goes down in the last few minutes (which I'm still reeling over and probably will be until season three comes out).
But something I want to take some time to spotlight is the incredible soundtrack that keeps the coming-of-age dramedy bumping right along. Music supervisors Ben Hochstein and Jamie Dooner have selected an excellent mix of jams filled with heartbreaking ballads that just might be better than the first season's near-perfect collection of musical gems.
