The lineup of documentaries that Netflix is streaming in July is pretty insane. From the world's scariest prisons to the world's coolest food, and from acclaimed feature documentaries [1] to Netflix originals, there's something new for every doc buff [2]. Here are 11 new documentaries that pair perfectly with a rainy (or sunny) day.

We, The Marines

We, The Marines gives a behind-the-scenes look at becoming and serving as a member of the US Marine Corps. Narrated by Gene Hackman, who is a former Marine himself, the film lets viewers see the first-hand experiences of America's Marines, as well as everything it takes to become one of the men and women who defend our country.

What We Started

Though Philip Rosenthal is probably best known as the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond, his docu-series Somebody Feed Phil follows him on a goodwill eating tour around the world. Rosenthal, joined by friends and family, visits cities, from Tel Aviv to Mexico City to New Orleans to Bangkok, getting a taste of the local cuisine and culture along the way. Lockup is a long-running prison documentary series that explores jail and prison facilities throughout the United States. The show profiles notable inmates, incidents, and prison operations, usually following one or two inmates as they attend disciplinary hearings, receive visits from family, and interact with other inmates.

Drug Lords, Season 2

Drug Lords is a docu-series examining drug cartels and kingpins from around the world. Each episode of the show explores the life of a different drug lord (all of whom have been previously fictionalized in movies and television), as well as their organisations and the law enforcement officials who eventually brought them down. Last Chance U: EMCC & Life After

Last Chance U is a Netflix documentary series that focuses on the American football program at East Mississippi Community College. Many of the players profiled were recruited to play at EMCC after being removed from Division I rosters due to academic or disciplinary issues. For these players, playing at the junior college level is their last chance to prove themselves and return to Division I. Also a part of the Last Chance U series, this new addition moves on from EMCC to profile players from Independence Community College in Kansas.

Roman Empire: Reign of Blood, Master of Rome

Roman Empire: Reign of Blood is a six-part miniseries that derives its origins from the historical Roman Empire to tell the story of Commodus. Telling the story through historians, narration, and reenacted drama, it starts with the end of the emperor Marcus Aurelius's reign and focuses on his son Commodus's years on the throne.
