New Jersey High School A Cappella Group Performs "Shallow"

This High School Group's A Cappella "Shallow" Cover Will Give Your Goosebumps Goosebumps

The lasting influence of A Star Is Born's "Shallow" can hardly be quantified. The breakout song earned Lady Gaga an Oscar for best original song, has been covered by countless celebrities, and continues to chart on the Billboart Hot 100 even half a year after the film's release. Unsurprisingly, it's now hitting the high school a cappella circuit.

Stay Tuned from Cherry Hill East High School in New Jersey has been covering the fairly challenging song with ease. After previously performing "Shallow" at a school concert last year, the group gave it another go on March 30 at A Cappella at the Rock, an annual festival at Council Rock High School North in Pennsylvania. The group's Alicia Cosenza would go on to be honoured as best female soloist, and after watching the performance, it's easy to see why.

Stay Tuned Director Heather Lockhart said it was her idea to cover "Shallow" after seeing the movie and rightfully assuming it would be big. The ballad's emotional maturity, however, presented a challenge. Lockhart told POPSUGAR, "The challenge in performing this a cappella was achieving the depth of that emotion in a group of high schoolers, most of whom haven't yet experienced anything close to that level of emotional intensity." She has a point, but Stay Tuned seemed up for the challenge.
