16 Netflix Original Films That Are Required Watching This March

A new month is almost here, which means a whole new batch of Netflix original films will soon be available to stream. This month's offerings include a cartel thriller [1] with an insanely stacked cast, a wild Mötley Crüe biopic [2] that might just rival Bohemian Rhapsody [3], and the most expensive Malaysian film ever made, as well as films from France, Mexico, Spain, Japan, India, Malawi, and more. If you're looking for a good excuse (or 16 good excuses) to cancel all of your plans this March, read on to see all the movies you need to check out next month.

Budapest

In this raunchy French comedy reminiscent of The Hangover, two friends decide to ditch their humdrum jobs to become bachelor party planners in Budapest, Hungary, much to the chagrin of their wives.

River's Edge

Based on a manga of the same name by Kyoko Okazaki, this Japanese teen comedy-drama takes place in a 1990s Tokyo suburb, telling the story of a teen girl who befriends the school outcast, a relationship that becomes complicated when he tells her about the dead body he found near the riverside.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

Based on the true story of William Kamkwamba and his book written with Bryan Mealer, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope, this film follows a 13-year-old boy who discovered a way to save his Malawi village from famine. It is the directorial debut for 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, as well as the first starring role for newcomer Maxwell Simba, who plays William.

Juanita

Based on Sheila Williams's book Dancing on the Edge of the Roof, this drama stars the legendary Alfre Woodard as Juanita, a woman at the end of her rope who decides to take a Greyhound bus to Paper Moon, MT, in order to begin a new life.

Lady J

Inspired by a story in Denis Diderot's Jacques the Fatalist, this French historical drama stars Hereafter's Cécile de France as Madame de la Pommeraye, a wealthy widow who, after she is spurned by her lover, decides to enact a complicated plan for revenge with the help of the titular Lady J.

Walk. Ride. Rodeo.

This biopic will tell the incredible true story of Amberley Snyder (played by Cougar Town's Spencer Locke), a nationally ranked rodeo barrel racer who defies the odds after barely surviving a car accident that leaves her paralyzed from the waist down.

Triple Frontier

With an all-star cast [11] that includes Ben Affleck [12], Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam [13], Garrett Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal, this cartel thriller will tell the story of five ex-US Special Forces soldiers and friends who reunite with the intention of robbing millions of dollars from a South American drug lord (and if you haven't seen the trailer [14] yet, you seriously need to watch it).

Burn Out

This French thriller follows a talented motorcycle racer named Tony who must use his skill and speed to work as a courier making drug deliveries when his mother needs help paying off her debts.

Dry Martina

In this Argentinian comedy-drama, a once-famous 35-year-old singer named Martina gets dumped and loses her voice. But just when everything seems hopeless, her supposed half-sister, Francisca, arrives out of the blue, asking that Martina accompany her and her cute young boyfriend to Chile to clear up the question of their parentage.

Girl

This revolutionary Belgian drama tells the true story of a 15-year-old transgender student at a prestigious dance academy, whose dreams of becoming a professional ballerina are challenged by her upcoming sex reassignment surgery.

Paskal

Inspired by the elite Royal Malaysian Navy force PASKAL, this Malaysian military action film tells the story of a lieutenant commander, Arman, who decides to resign as a field operative to work a stable desk job and care for his sick mother. But when he finds out that a former PASKAL operative is planning to hijack an oil rig, it becomes clear that he cannot leave the field just yet.

Mirage

In this Spanish sci-fi thriller, a happily married mother named Vera learns that there is a possibility of saving the life of a boy who lived in her home 25 years earlier, but this good deed provokes a chain reaction, and Vera wakes up in a new reality where her daughter has never been born and her husband does not even know her.

The Dirt

Based on Mötley Crüe's 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, this long-awaited biopic will star Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee, Douglas Booth (from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as Nikki Sixx, Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones' evil Ramsay Bolton) as Mick Mars, and Daniel Webber (who plays Lewis Wilson on The Punisher) as Vince Neil.

15 August

Set in a Mumbai chawl, this satirical Marathi film marks veteran Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit's debut as a producer, following the course of a single day as the working-class residents prepare for a flag-hoisting ceremony.

Bayoneta

In this Mexican drama, a former boxer named Miguel "Bayoneta" Galíndez decides to leave his life in Tijuana behind after a terrible match to move into a cramped flat in Finland, but eventually a desire for redemption forces him to face his past and find his way back into the ring.

The Highwaymen

Directed by John Lee Hancock, who also directed The Blind Side, this crime film will tell the true story of two former Texas Rangers and ex-partners (played by Kevin Costner [22] and Woody Harrelson) who join forces to try and capture notorious criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Kathy Bates, Kim Dickens, and John Carroll Lynch will also appear.
