17 Netflix Original Movies Coming in May That Everyone Will Be Talking About

Three of the most hotly anticipated movies of the year are coming to Netflix this month, and we're so excited, we could weep. But it's not just the Zac Efron-led Ted Bundy biographical thriller, Amy Poehler-directed wine-fuelled comedy, and Ali Wong-starring rom-com coming — Netflix is also blessing us with 14 other incredible-looking original movies. With flicks from Austria, India, South Korea, France, Spain, Malaysia, Argentina, and the Philippines, May's new original movie offerings look incredibly promising, and we can barely wait to stream them. Here are all the movies everyone will be talking about once they're available to stream this month.

1. Munafik 2

In this sequel to the 2016 Malaysian supernatural film (and the second instalment in a planned trilogy), a Muslim medical practitioner continues to heal after the death of his wife and son and becomes a freelance preacher, though he is now plagued by a mysterious woman who questions him about faith and destiny.

2. Despite Everything

In this Spanish rom-com, four sisters with very different personalities embark on a road trip together after their mother passes away (and after they learn that the man they always called Dad is not, in fact, their real father).

3. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

Zac Efron takes on serial killer Ted Bundy in this thriller, which is interestingly told from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer (played by Lily Collins), who was in denial about who Bundy really was for years.

4. The Last Summer

This rom-com stars KJ Apa, Jacob Latimore, Maia Mitchell, and Tyler Posey as Griffin, Alec, Phoebe, and Ricky, four members in a close-knit group of recent high school grads trying to make the most of their last Summer together before heading off to college.

5. Dry Martina

In this Argentinian comedy-drama, a once-famous 35-year-old singer named Martina gets dumped and loses her voice. But just when everything seems hopeless, her supposed half-sister, Francisca, arrives out of the blue, asking that Martina accompany her and her cute young boyfriend to Chile to clear up the question of their parentage.

Based on the novel by Laura Norton, this Spanish rom-com follows an architect who returns home to the comfort (and craziness) of her family after her longtime boyfriend cheats on her with a famous TV reporter.

This French erotic thriller follows Zachary, a 17-year-old recently released from jail and rejected by his mother who finds himself living on the streets of Marseille, where he falls for a young sex worker named Shéhérazade.

8. Wine Country

Amy Poehler produced, directed, and stars in this raunchy comedy alongside the dream cast of Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, and Emily Spivey as a group of gal pals celebrating one of the friend's 50th birthday in California's wine country.

9. Good Sam

Tiya Sircar from The Good Place stars in this comedy as Kate Bradley, an NYC TV news reporter who attempts to hunt down an anonymous good Samaritan, "Good Sam," who keeps leaving $100,000 in cash on seemingly random people's doorsteps.

10. Maria

This female-centric action flick from the Philippines follows a former BlackRose cartel assassin, who — after refusing a mission — fakes her own death to escape the cartel and begin a new life, which works until the cartel discovers that she is still alive.

In this incredibly cool sci-fi drama, two science geek best friends, C.J. and Sebastian, work together to create a time machine that will allow them to save C.J.'s brother, who was wrongfully killed by a police officer.
