100+ New Original Netflix Series That Were Required Watching in 2019

Need a new show to binge? You're in luck, because Netflix is debuting a whole bunch of new binge-worthy series in 2019. Even though next year will bring the end of some of our favourite series [1] (such as Orange Is the New Black [2] and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt [3]), Netflix is softening the blow with tons of new sci-fi series, comedies, and reality series, including a teen-centric drama starring Uma Thurman [4] that just may be the new 13 Reasons Why [5], and a Renée Zellweger [6] social thriller that's basically Black Mirror [7] (but maybe even better). Comedians of the World

In the first series of its kind, Comedians of the World will feature 47 up-and-coming comedians from 13 different regions and with eight different native languages as they deliver their own unique perspectives on humourous situations around the world.

Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

30 years after Ted Bundy's execution in Florida, this four-part docuseries will feature never-before-heard audio interviews with the infamous serial killer (who committed more than 30 violent sex crimes against women before being caught in 1978) during his time on death row.

Black Earth Rising

Starring Chewing Gum's Michaela Coel, this thriller follows the journey of a woman who — after being rescued from the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide as a girl and raised in London — decides she wants to know the truth about her dark past.

Kingdom

Set in Korea's medieval Joseon period, this South Korean drama follows a crown prince who is forced out to investigate a mysterious plague that's spreading across his country, making the infected immune to death and hungry for the taste of flesh.

Russian Doll

Orange Is the New Black [17]'s Natasha Lyonne stars in this comedy series about a woman caught in a Groundhog Day-type loop, repeatedly attending the same party, dying, and waking up the next day unharmed. Always a Witch

Netflix's second Colombian original series, which is based on the novel Yo, Bruja by Isidora Chacon, stars Afro-Colombian actress Angely Gaviria as 19-year-old Carmen, a 17th-century Colombian witch who travels in time to avoid being burned at the stake, finding herself in present-day Cartagena.

The Umbrella Academy

An adaption of My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way's comic book series of the same name, this Netflix show will follow a dysfunctional family of superheroes — Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumour, The Séance, The Boy, and The White Violin — as they attempt to work together to figure out what caused their father's death. Cannon Busters

Adapted from a 2003 comic of the same name, this anime series tell the story of a royal droid named S.A.M. who goes on a mission to find her best friend (who happens to be heir to the throne) and meets an old maintenance droid and a fugitive along the way.

Ultraman

This anime series is a reboot of the 1960s Japanese science fiction series, telling the story of Shin Hayata, a member of the Science Patrol anti-monster defence agency who was killed by an alien and brought back to life in the form of a 131-foot red and silver superhero named Ultraman.

Our Planet

Daybreak

Based on Brian Ralph's graphic novel of the same name, this dark comedy will follow a 17-year-old high school outcast who goes on a mission to find his missing girlfriend in post-apocalyptic Glendale, CA, and Matthew Broderick [30] will make his regular TV gig debut as the high school's good-natured principal.

October Faction

Based on the comic by Steve Niles, this sci-fi series will follow monster-hunting husband-and-wife team Fred and Deloris Allen (played by J.C. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

Serving as a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson film The Dark Crystal, this dark reboot [39] will following three Gelflings who, after discovering the secret behind the Skeksis's power, decide to set out on a journey to rebel against them and save the world. Central Park 5

Based on a short film and comic book by Dennis Liu, this sci-fi series tells the story of a single mother attempting to hide the superhuman abilities of her son, Dion, which start to manifest following the death of her scientist husband (who's played by Michael B. Messiah
