A Kidnapped Fred Savage Lives Up to His Name in This Trailer For Once Upon a Deadpool

Deadpool is back for the holiday season, and he's bringing Fred Savage along for the ride (but not willingly). Ryan Reynolds [1]'s Merc with the Mouth is kicking off the holidays with a PG-13 revamp of this year's Deadpool 2 [Array]. As the trailer for Once Upon a Deadpool demonstrates, this involves filtering the violent, profanity-filled film through "the prism of childlike innocence." Namely, kidnapping Savage, of The Princess Bride fame.

"Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006," Reynolds told Deadline on Monday [2]. "I've said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said 'Yes' on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining . . ."

Recreating the bedtime story framework from the classic 1987 fantasy film, Once Upon a Deadpool is a more family-friendly version of the Deadpool sequel with several scenes cut, and new ones shot with Reynolds and Savage. For every ticket sold, $1 will go to the charity F*ck Cancer — temporarily renamed to Fudge Cancer — with a limited theatrical run that begins Dec. 12 and concludes on Christmas Eve. While there's a lot less vulgarity in this version — as Reynolds tweeted when he debuted the movie's poster [3], "The only F word in this movie is Fred Aaron Savage." — Savage definitely lives up to his surname.
