Parkland Students Perform "Seasons of Love" at Tony Awards

Parkland Students Get a Standing Ovation For Their Tearjerking Tony Awards Performance

The Tony Awards was full of show-stopping performances on Sunday night, but one of the most emotional was from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School drama department. During the show, the students and survivors of the Parkland, FL, school shooting gave a stirring rendition of "Seasons of Love" from Rent, which moved most of the audience to tears.

Aside from getting a standing ovation for their performance, the Tonys also took a moment to honour the school's drama teacher Melody Herzfeld, who helped hide students in the drama room during the shooting, by awarding her with the 2018 Excellence in Theatre Education Award. "All the goodness and tragedy that has brought me to this point will never be erased," she said during her acceptance speech. Grab some tissues and watch the performance above.
