Get Yourself Ready For the Punky Brewster Reboot by Revisiting the Original Cast

13/06/2019 - 04:05 PM

Among the slew of announcements about reboots and revivals [1] of classic TV series, there's one that hasn't gotten a ton of attention. Word recently broke that Punky Brewster, the 1980s NBC sitcom about a precocious, tough little girl is exploring the possibility of a revival series [2]. According to Deadline, the new series would be a sequel [3] (in the vein of Fuller House or the upcoming Veronica Mars [4]) and pick back up with the original characters having aged, rather than attempting to reboot the premise with a whole new cast. Of course, that's got us wondering what the show's original cast members have been up to in the last decade or so. Many of them have stepped away from the spotlight, but here's what we know about some of the original stars today.

Soleil Moon Frye as Penelope "Punky" Brewster

Soleil Moon Frye Now

Frye continued her career after Punky Brewster with another classic comedy as Roxie in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She hasn't done much work in Hollywood over the past several years, but she's been spending the time with her family: she and her husband, producer Jason Goldberg, have four kids, and the youngest was born in 2016.

Cherie Johnson as Cherie Johnson

Cherie Johnson Now

Johnson has continued to act on and off, but she's also tackled a new challenge: writing. She's the author of three books: Two Different Walks of Life "A Celebrity and an Average Housewife" [5], Stupid Guys Diary [6], and Peaches & Cream [7].

George Gaynes as Henry Warnimont

After a long career that spanned decades on both film and television, Gaynes passed away in 2016, having retired from acting over a decade earlier.

T.K. Carter (back, second from left) as Mike Fulton

T.K. Carter Now

Carter's career has quieted down since his heyday a decade or so ago. His only recent credit was in The Bobby Brown Story.

Susie Garrett as Betty Johnson

Garrett, who played heartfelt grandmother Betty, sadly passed away in 2002 after a battle with cancer.

Eddie Deezen as Eddie Malvin

Eddie Deezen Now

Deezen made a career for himself with "nerd" parts through the 1980s before shifting into mostly voice work, where he's voiced characters on Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more.
