Regina King Emmys Acceptance Speech Video 2018

Regina King's Acceptance Speech at the Emmys Was So Pure That We're Still Smiling

Regina King, donning a stunning neon-green dress, managed to steal our hearts on Monday night. At the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards show, King took the stage to accept the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie for her heartbreaking role in the Netflix crime drama Seven Seconds. She beat out other worthy actresses for the trophy, including Jessica Biel, Laura Dern, and Sarah Paulson.

King's response to her win was pure shock (and pure joy!), and although she claimed that she didn't have a speech prepared, her stage presence and passionate words made for one of the night's most memorable onstage moments (other than that proposal, of course). "Really?" she said in disbelief while holding her new Emmy. "Say 'word.' Oh my God."

She went on to thank the academy, her peers, her family, Fox 21, Netflix, and all who had a hand in Seven Seconds. "Thank for creating an opportunity to tell a story and hold a mirror up to what's going on today," she said. After a few more moments of thanks and pauses to collect her thoughts, she finally admitted with a smile, "This is amazing. I want to curse right now."

Watch her soak in the recognition in the video above, and then check out all the other amazing moments that happened at the Emmys on Monday night.
