The rise of the romantic comedy in 2018 was swift, wonderfully cheesy, and surprisingly groundbreaking. We saw releases on both the big and small screen that reminded fans that romance definitely isn't dead — like the iconic adaptation of Kevin Kwan's hit 2014 novel, Crazy Rich Asians, and Set It Up, the film that led the "resurgence of romantic comedies" on Netflix. Now, it's a whole new year, and 2019 promises a ton of charming flicks that will excite any true rom-com fan. Check them out ahead!

This gender-reversed What Women Want stars Taraji P. Henson as a sports agent who gets overlooked in her male-dominated profession. But she gains an unexpected advantage over the men she works with when she starts to hear their thoughts. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Max Greenfield, Kellan Lutz, Pete Davidson, and Aldis Hodge costar.

Natalie (Rebel Wilson), cynical and fed up with love, gets hit over the head and wakes up trapped in a rom-com. She must avoid cliches and find her happily ever after in order to return to reality in this film, costarring Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine, and Priyanka Chopra.

Seth Rogen stars as a down-on-his-luck journalist who decides to pursue his childhood crush and babysitter — and she has not only become one of the most powerful and unattainable women on the planet, but she's also played by Charlize Theron. That's a tough go, buddy. Alexander Skarsgard (clearly having a very busy 2019) costars.

Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez plays a young woman who rebounds from a devastating breakup by taking a trip to New York City with her best friends. Brittany Snow, DeWanda Wise, and Rosario Dawson costar, and it's the directorial debut of Sweet/Vicious writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
