18/09/2019 - 09:30 AM

RuPaul's Drag Race [1] is officially coming to the UK, and based on everything we know so far, it's going to be just as wonderful as the US version. The show first premiered in the US in 2009 and is now in its 11th season, not including spinoffs like RuPaul's Drag U and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. Now, with local judges, celebrity guest judges [2], and, of course, a fresh group of queens who are ready to battle it out for the title as the "Queen of Great Britain," the show is coming to our shores.

With news dropping almost daily as the season premiere nears, we've scoured the Internet for all the information you need about the UK spinoff of RuPaul's Drag Race.

When Will RuPaul’s Drag Race Premiere in the UK?

According to the BBC, there will be eight episodes in the UK spinoff of Drag Race, which will premiere on Oct. 3.

Where Will I Be Able to Watch RuPaul’s Drag Race UK?

When the show premieres, you can watch RuPaul's Drag Race UK on BBC Three, via BBC iPlayer [3] — it will only be available to watch online at this stage.

Who Will Be the Resident Judges on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK?

Of course, RuPaul [4] will be leading the UK adaptation of Drag Race to crown the "Queen of Great Britain." He has also made it very clear that he would be "thrilled to have Meghan Markle [5] join us, as we are already preparing a 'Royal-Mother-to-Be' runway challenge." It was also announced in February that Michelle Visage will be coming to her favourite city in the world to join the judging panel for RuPaul's Drag Race UK. I know the UK has a wealth of talent to offer and I'm thrilled beyond belief to see these queens battle it out on the main stage, UK-style! GOD SAVE THE QUEENS!" she said in a statement released by the BBC in February.

The BBC announced in early 2019 that Graham Norton and Alan Carr will be joining RuPaul's Drag Race [6] as rotating resident celebrity judges. Norton appeared as a guest judge on the US version of the show in season two (2016), and told the BBC that "becoming part of the drag race family makes me ridiculously happy! I can't wait to see what the UK drag queens bring to the party, but they better weeeeerk!!!". Carr met RuPaul when he appeared on his chat show Alan Carr's Chatty Man and "can't wait to see what the UK Queens have got in store."

There’s an Unexpected Connection Between Love Island and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK

In July, it was announced that Love Island's Curtis Pritchard — who was a dancer on the Irish version of Dancing With the Stars [11] before entering the Love Island villa — and his brother AJ would be joining the show as dance coaches and choreographers. AJ is also well-known in the UK as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, and both men are excited to join the RuPaul's Drag Race team [12] when the show airs on the BBC. This is the first time the brothers will be appearing on screen together with Curtis saying he jumps "at the chance of working with my brother anytime anything together comes up, so doing that and being asked to be part of something so iconic was a yes from me!".

It was also announced in the same press release that Brit and Grammy-award-winning songwriter, MNEK would be joining the RuPaul ranks [13] as a vocal coach. MNEK was the recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Vanguard Music Award for song writing at the age of 21 and has just casually written for some of the music industry's biggest names like Beyoncé [14], Christina Aguilera [15], Madonna [16], Little Mix [17], and Dua Lipa [18].

Who Is In The RuPaul's Drag Race UK Cast

In addition to the wonderful judges — and guest judges — who are joining the RuPaul's Drag Race ranks for the UK spinoff, the BBC finally announced the ten queens [19] who will be competing for the title as "Queen of Great Britain". Here's a brief rundown of everyone you'll be watching when the show airs in October.

We have Baga Chipz, who is a self-proclaimed pub queen and tart with a heart, Blu Hydrangea is like a high fashion cartoon character from outer space, Crystal — the gender bending drag queen, and Cheryl Hole who's a death-dropping dancing diva. Let's not forget about the old-school glamour of Divina De Campo, Gothy Kendoll (who is everything you're picturing, and more), Sum Ting Wong — the reformed emo kid who loves to sing, and Scaredy Kat who is pink, pink, pink, and (you guessed it) feline-esque. Our final two queens are The Vivienne, who considers comedy their ultimate trump card, and Vinegar Strokes, who describes themselves as a mix between "Tina Turner, meets Lizzo [20], meets Kat Slater".
