No worries — Netflix is here to ensure you can cover your eyes like a 5-year-old in the safety of your own home with its selection of stellar horror movies. There are stomach-churning slashers [1], psychological thrillers [2] that will make your hair stand on end, and more. Keep scrolling to see what you need to put on your queue this Fall, but don't say I didn't warn you . . .

The Ritual

At first glance, The Ritual's plot [4] seems like it's yet another rehash of something we've seen approximately 6 billion times before: a group of friends on a trip into the woods gone very, very wrong. Somehow, it's still able to break new ground with a creepy, out-of-left-field twist.

It Follows

After a young woman hooks up with her crush, she finds herself pursued by a relentless evil entity that she can only escape if she sleeps with someone else, passing on the curse. Seeing what happens when the evil entity catches up to someone will scar you.

Cargo

When his wife succumbs to a zombie bite and he realises he's not long behind her, a father begins a desperate search for a safe place to leave his infant daughter in the Australian outback before he dies.

Watch it now [7].

Holidays

Holidays consists of eight short films dedicated to different holidays, directed by a mix of unknown and established directors (*cough* Kevin Smith *cough*). It's a bit uneven, but it's guaranteed to ruin at least a few of your favourite days of the year . . . in the best way possible.

Watch it now [8].

The Forgotten

In the midst of a thick wave of grief following the death of her 8-year-old son, a mother begins to suspect that he's not actually dead at all when she meets a woman with a similar story.

Watch it now [9].

V/H/S/2

Like the first in the series, V/H/S/2 is linked by one overarching found-footage narrative but dives into five individual tales. Director Gareth Evans's (The Raid, Apostle) story about an Indonesian cult, "Safe Haven," is scarring, as is "A Ride in the Park," about a zombie apocalypse.

Watch it now [10].

Hush

Easily one of the best horror movies to come out of Netflix's original slate, 2016's Hush follows a deaf writer over the course of one night as she's hunted by a masked maniac. Prepare for multiple people getting shot by a crossbow King Joffrey-style.

Watch it now [11].

Oculus

The idea of a haunted mirror might sound silly, but when you watch what the pair of siblings in Oculus are forced to contend with, you might find yourself a little freaked out while doing your makeup in the mirror the next morning.

Watch it now [12].

Gerald's Game

The thriller is based on Stephen King's 1992 novel about a woman (Carla Gugino) whose husband (Bruce Greenwood) unexpectedly dies after handcuffing her to the bed in an effort to spice up their marriage, leaving her trapped in their remote lake house. Plagued by visions of past trauma and her dead husband (and what looks like a rabid dog), she has to fight for her life and her sanity.

Watch it now [13].

Train to Busan

This South Korean zombie movie was a box office hit, for good reason. The terrifyingly claustrophobic horror film centres on a father and daughter who must survive a gory outbreak of the undead on a lengthy train journey to the country's only remaining safe city.

Watch it now [14].

The Collection

This 2012 horror-thriller centres on a serial killer who goes by "The Collector" and who specialises in torturing his victims in a very peculiar way. When a young woman named Elena is taken hostage by the murderer in an abandoned hotel, one of his former victims has to help a hired mercenary find and free her.

Watch it now [15].

Before I Wake

A couple happily adopt a young boy, only to realise that he has the unique ability to make his dreams a reality . . . as well as his nightmares.

Watch it now [16].

Hostage to the Devil

First things first: this is a documentary, rather than a fictional tale. But even if you haven't gotten into the recent documentary craze, you have to appreciate just how chilling the story of Father Malachi Martin [17] is. He's performed countless exorcisms over the years, some of which are every bit as scary as The Exorcist.

Watch it now [18].

Sweet Home

The phrase "Home sweet home" definitely doesn't apply to this horror flick, which sees a real estate agent attempting to use an empty apartment for a romantic night in with her boyfriend. Unfortunately, a group of murderers descends on the dwelling (totally normal occurrence) and turns their steamy evening into something far scarier.

Watch it now [19].

Curse of Chucky

I suggest getting rid of any childhood dolls you're still hanging on to before watching this part of Chucky's ongoing reign of terror, because his plot for revenge against the family of a former lover — yes, lover — is gruesome.

Watch it now [20].

Dreamcatcher

If sci-fi is your thing, then you've come to the right place. Not only is the whole film about an alien invasion and a group of lifelong friends, but it's also based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. So you know it's good!

Watch it now [21].

Violent supernatural visions begin plaguing a young girl after she unknowingly sets off a deeply unfortunate chain of paranormal events.

Watch it now [22].

The Strangers

The Strangers stars Liv Tyler [23] and Scott Speedman [24] as a couple whose relationship is falling apart . . . until they unite to defend their holiday home from three masked intruders.

Watch it now [25].

Red Christmas

The level of gore gets kicked up a notch in Red Christmas as a deformed killer seeking revenge for a two-decades-old decision ambushes a family during their holiday get-together.

Watch it now [26].

Bleed

Why would you explore an abandoned prison? WHY, people?! You're just asking for trouble, which is exactly what a pregnant woman, her husband, and their friends find as they traverse the ruins of a haunted building that used to house prisoners.

Watch it now [27].

Hold the Dark

Hold the Dark will leave you with your fair share of chills, and not just because it's set in Alaska. Jeremy Saulnier's psychological thriller stars Westworld's Jeffrey Wright as a retired wolf expert who receives a disturbing letter from a grieving mother (Riley Keough), pleading with him to investigate the wolves she thinks killed her son in their small Alaskan village. He agrees to go but soon finds himself tangled up in a web far more dangerous than he ever could have expected.

Watch it on Sept. 28.

The Boy

New nanny Greta (The Walking Dead [28]'s Lauren Cohan) is hired to watch a young boy, but upon arriving at the grand estate, she discovers that his parents actually want her to care for a doll. After they explain a strict set of rules and leave him in her care, Greta starts to notice odd occurrences happening around the home.

Watch it now [29].

Ravenous

This is actually a pretty introspective and beautiful movie, as far as films in the zombie genre go. That being said, watching a small group of desperate survivors attempt to navigate the aftermath of a zombie-like outbreak in rural Quebec is going to come with some nauseating moments.

Watch it on Netflix now [30].

Friend Request

A popular college student (Fear the Walking Dead [31]'s Alycia Debnam-Carey) and her friends are being tracked by a mysterious social media account — and potentially the spirit of a dead classmate — that appears to be orchestrating each of their grisly deaths.

Watch it on Netflix now [32].

House on Willow Street

You're Next's Sharni Vinson appears in this movie about a group of kidnappers whose most recent victim is much more resilient than they realise.

Watch it on Netflix now [33].

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

There's no better time to catch up on Leatherface's early cannibalistic exploits, right? This one stars Jordana Brewster [34] and is a little bit silly, but it's still enjoyable (if you're into seeing young, gorgeous people get hacked to bits, that is).

Watch it on Netflix now [35].

The Devil's Dolls

A detective gets the worst case of his life when he tries to stop a serial killer, whose cursed set of dolls ends up in the worst possible hands.

Watch it now [36].

Teeth

The flirty phrase "Watch out: I bite" takes on a whole new meaning in Teeth, which introduces us to a young woman (It: Chapter Two's Jess Weixler) whose vagina comes equipped with razor-sharp "teeth" that can slice through just about anything when prompted. (Her vagina has teeth, people! I really shouldn't have to explain what ends up getting cut off.)

Watch it now [37].

Delirium

After being released from a psychiatric hospital, a man (Topher Grace [38]) inherits his parents' estate following their deaths. Unfortunately, it looks like their sprawling home might come with a few unwanted guests, if you catch my drift.

Watch it now [39].

The Wailing

After a mysterious disease overtakes a small village, a police officer sets out to find a cure when his daughter is infected.

Watch it now [40].

Piranha

This horror flick about a vicious pack of flesh-eating piranha's that gets loose in a lake one Summer has plenty of campiness, which is good since you'd likely be feeling pretty woozy by the time it ends otherwise.

Watch it now. [41]

Would You Rather

A sadistic billionaire forces a group of people to answer life's tough questions: would you rather slit your own eyeball open with a razor or get your hand blown up by a stick of dynamite? Fun.

Watch it on Netflix now [42].

Cabin Fever

For whatever reason, Eli Roth decided to remake his 2002 gore-fest, Cabin Fever, starring Rider Strong, in 2016 with a handful of Hollywood newcomers. Luckily, the premise — and gross-out factor — remains the same in both: a group of teens heads to a lakeside cabin one weekend and end up contracting a deadly, flesh-eating virus that wipes them out one by one.

Watch the 2002 original [43] or the 2016 remake [44] now.

The Witch

A family of pilgrims living on the edge of a forest in primeval New England get more and more paranoid after they start to suspect that they've been cursed by a witch.

Watch it now [45].

The Babysitter

To be totally honest, I find this movie starring Samara Weaving as a killer babysitter pretty funny and heartfelt. But that doesn't stop the McG-directed horror-comedy from being drenched in blood as Weaving's pals get rightfully picked off by a clever kid.

Watch it on Netflix now [46].

Scream 4

The fourth act of the Scream franchise picks up on the 15th anniversary of the original Woodsboro massacre, upon which two girls are butchered. Perennial final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) returns home as a successful self-help author, only to find herself tangled up in the new Ghostface's mission of death along with her cousin, Jill (Emma Roberts).

Watch it on Netflix now [47].

Clown

The premise of this movie might sound a little lame — a man unwittingly puts on a cursed clown costume and is transformed into a kid-hungry demon — but it's surprisingly smart and absolutely disgusting. Like, so. much. bloody. horror. Watching the "clown" tear off his "nose" will haunt you for the rest of your days.

Watch it on Netflix now [48].

Sick of seeing female witches have all the fun? Enter The Covenant. The film explores what happens after a student dies at a party and how the tangled past of four boys and their families is connected.

Watch it on Netflix now [50].

In this Netflix original movie, a rancher conspires to murder his wife so he can get a sweet cash payout. But when he asks his teenage son for help, sh*t truly hits the fan.

Watch it now [51].

Stephanie

A young girl struggles to survive in her home alone after her parents flee her and the rotting corpse of her older brother. She actually seems to be doing pretty well for herself, except, of course, for the malevolent monster stalking her.

Watch it now [52].

Demon Inside

This Spanish film stars Paz Vega as a psychic who loses her powers and abandons her career after a traumatic experience. Years later, she decides to leave the asylum where she's been living, only for her past to come back to haunt her.

Watch it now [53].

The Gift

This movie is wildly creepy. (Like, it might make you hate Jason Bateman [54] and Joel Edgerton forever levels of creepy.) Although it initially might seem like a story of reconciliation when two high school classmates reconnect decades later, true motives gradually come to light in horrifying fashion.

Watch it now [55].

Hellraiser

If you get sick of the mindless stabbing Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers dole out, consider Hellraiser, which introduces a creature that's wickedly smart and very deadly. Just prepare yourself for some majorly flayed corpses!

Watch it now [56].

The Conjuring

If you haven't seen modern-day horror classic The Conjuring yet, I'm honestly a little jealous you get to experience the film's excellent thrills and chills for the first time. It's a superb entry into the genre, following a family of young women possessed by the demonic spirit of a murdered witch who used to live on their property and the paranormal investigators who set out to help them.

Watch it now [57].

The Black Room

A couple's new dream home turns into a living, breathing nightmare when they discover an evil spirit in the basement.

Watch it now [59].
