Will There Be Sharp Objects Season 2?

According to Gillian Flynn, Sharp Objects Season 2 Could Happen

The latest Gillian Flynn book adaptation, Sharp Objects, has Gone Girl fans all sorts of excited. After seeing how well HBO handled Big Little Lies, we can't wait to see how Jean-Marc Vallée (who is directing both projects) brings Flynn's debut novel to the small screen. Now that a second season of Big Little Lies is officially happening, we can't help but wonder if Sharp Objects will continue past its first season as well. According to Flynn, that very well may be a possibility.

Sharp Objects tells the story of a crime journalist named Camille Preaker (played in the forthcoming show by Amy Adams), who returns to her hometown of Wind Gap, MI, to investigate the mysterious murder of a young girl. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the author said she can already imagine the story continuing for Camille and her other characters past what has already been written.

"My characters always go on in my imagination," she said. "They have full working lives in there, and I keep in touch with all of them . . . I know exactly what happens to them."

During a Q&A at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, TX, Amy Adams remarked on how the decision to opt for an eight-episode miniseries rather than a two-hour film (as was originally intended) was the right move. "If you go back and read Sharp Objects, the internal monologue of Camille is almost impossible to capture in a 90-minute story, so it's so well suited to this," said Amy. "I think [the limited series] is the near future of storytelling." It seems to us that if a plan to continue the series was discussed, Amy would be on board.

We think HBO would be open to the possibility as well. While speaking at a panel at the INTV conference in Israel, HBO's vice president of drama, David Levine, revealed that Amy's performance as Camille is "spectacular," which certainly bodes well for the show's future.

It seems to us that all involved can echo Gillian Flynn's thoughts on the matter: "I would never say no [to another season]." Nothing has been confirmed as of now, but we can only hope that Sharp Objects will get more screen time than its eight-episode run.

In the meantime, get ready for the July 8 premiere of Sharp Objects on HBO!
