It's time to start investing in a quality magnifying glass and deerstalker, because Sherlock Holmes 3 [1] is officially a go [2]. Avengers: Infinity War actor Robert Downey Jr. is retiring his Iron Man suit to return as the famed detective, which follows up his appearance in 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which racked up an impressive $545 million at the international box office, and 2009's Sherlock Holmes, which earned Downey Jr. a Golden Globe award.
There's still no word about which of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's mysteries the film will follow, or if Jude Law [3] will come back to play Sherlock Holmes's trusty sidekick, Watson. Since he's signed on to two massive franchises at the moment — Disney's Captain Marvel [4] and Warner Bros.'s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald [5] — Holmes might have to search for someone else to bounce ideas off of. What we do know is that the as-yet-untitled installment in the franchise will hit movie theatres on Christmas Day 2020.
