Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, stars of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End (to name but a few) are reuniting yet again to bring us another dose of hilarious scares. This time, though, they're moving their talents to the small screen — according to Variety, the pair are set to play paranormal investigators in Amazon's upcoming series Truth Seekers [1].
The show will follow the two bumbling ghost hunters as they "team up to uncover and film paranormal sightings across the U.K." So, expect to see Frost and Pegg staking out potentially haunted churches, underground bunkers, and creepy abandoned hospitals with the help of plenty of DIY [2] ghost-detecting tools (what, you don't have any of those?) that broadcast their findings online. As the 8-episode series goes on, the characters' experiences with supernatural entities "grow more frequent, terrifying, and even deadly as the pair begin to uncover a conspiracy that could threaten the entire human race."
Frost is on board as Gus, one of the ghost hunters, while Pegg's character is named Dave (nothing else about him has been revealed thus far). Variety reports that further casting announcements will be made soon.
"It's been nothing but a joyride in seeing this mad tale of paranormal conspiracy unfold in all its understated brilliance," Frost said of the project. Pegg echoed his collaborator's sentiments, adding, "Nick and I are delighted that Truth Seekers has found a home with Amazon Prime Video. We're looking forward to working closely with them and creating something very special. These are truly exciting times for television, and I can't think of a better partner than Amazon to accompany us on a return to the smaller screen."
If Truth Seekers is anything like their past collaborations, this will likely end up being one of our favourite shows of the year . . . although which year is still up in the air, since a release date is still under wraps. Fingers crossed we don't have to wait too long.
