Stranger Things Halloween Costumes

From Barb to Eddie Munson, There's a Perfect "Stranger Things" Halloween Costume For Everyone

"Stranger Things" took the world by storm when it debuted on Netflix back in 2016, and it's been dominating Halloween ever since. The fourth season arrived in July, and you can bet you'll be seeing plenty of little Elevens, Steves, and even little Vecnas running around on 31 Oct. Plus, what could make for a better couples' costume than Eddie Munson and Chrissy? "Stranger Things" was made for Halloween, and with its giant cast of characters — which has grown steadily every year, but probably won't increase in season five — there's a costume option for everyone.

Season five will be the series's final season, so this Halloween is the perfect time to pay tribute to the show while everyone's still reeling from the events of the past season and hotly anticipating its conclusion. Whether you want to brush up on exactly what Will Byers was wearing the night he disappeared way back when or you just want to figure out exactly how to replicate Hopper's '80s dad shirts, we've got everything you need to nail a costume inspired by the show. If you need step-by-step DIY instructions, we can help with that, too. Ahead, check out everything you need for the perfect "Stranger Things" Halloween costume.

Nancy Wheeler

  • What to wear: If you don't have long, brown hair, get yourself a long, brown wig, and pin it back on both sides of your head. Then, pair it with a cutesy striped sweater or button-down (buttoned all the way up, naturally), and a high-waisted skirt or jeans. If you go for a skirt, make sure you wear it with white tights and flats. Keep in mind Nancy's cool accessories, which include her homework, notebooks, and a bat.

Will Byers

  • What to wear: Will rocks a red and yellow (and very '80s) puffy vest on top of a blue plaid shirt and some light-coloured jeans and trainers. His bowl cut is the real kicker, though.

Dustin Henderson

  • What to wear: Dustin's red, white, and blue baseball hat shouldn't be hard to mimic if you buy a plain white hat and some red and blue paint. Once that's done, pick up a curly brown wig, an old-school graphic T-shirt, some brown corduroys, a denim jacket, and a backpack. Also consider getting something to make it look like you're missing your front teeth.

Jim Hopper

  • What to wear: Halloween retailers have plenty of different versions of cop costumes, so if you search for one in a khaki colour, like a state trooper, your Hopper costume will be complete. Grow out or paste on some 5-o'clock shadow if possible, and maybe carry around an empty beer can for good measure.

    Jonathan Byers

  • What to wear: Jonathan's wardrobe is pretty basic (a baggy, plain brown T-shirt and lighter-wash jeans), so it's important you nail his shaggy brown hair with the perfect wig. To make sure everyone knows who you are, carry a camera around your neck, and bring a few of the "Have You Seen Me?" posters he makes to help find his brother, Will, to hand out to your friends.

    Mike Wheeler

  • What to wear: A light Member's Only-esque jacket on top of a striped, collared shirt with jeans and sneakers. Just like Dustin and Will, Mike's '80s hair is important, so make sure you nail it.

    Steve Harrington

  • What to wear:Tuck a striped, long-sleeved polo into some belted khakis, and rock a pair of brown loafers. Feel free to pop the collar.

    Joyce Byers

  • What to wear: Joyce has a more low-key '80s mom look than the rest of the parents on the show, so all you'll really need is a thin dark jacket, a striped shirt or chunky turtleneck jumper, and flared jeans with a shaggy brown bob hairstyle. If you really want to hammer home the fact you're dressing up as her, consider bringing a rubber axe or a piece of cardboard painted with the alphabet out with you. You could even go one step further and wrap part of your body in colourful Christmas lights.

    Barbara Holland

  • What to wear: Barb's role in "Stranger Things" might not be the most robust, but her wardrobe certainly is. Once you've figured out a way to get her short red hairstyle, get a plaid shirt with as many ruffles as possible, high-waisted light-wash (mom) jeans, a thin watch, and some Sally Jessy Raphael glasses. Feel free to tote around a fake notebook or binder.

    Lucas Sinclair

  • What to wear: A red corduroy jacket, striped Y-shirt, and dark-coloured pants. Add a backpack and tie a camouflaged bandana around your forehead to complete Lucas's "let's find Elle" outfit.

    Dr. Martin Brenner

  • What to wear: A full grey suit, a dark tie, and a long, dark coat. Get a wig or some temporary dye to match Dr. Brenner's shock of white hair. If you have time, whip up a fake ID badge for the government agency Brenner works for, with his name across it to pin on your jacket.

    Eleven

  • What to wear: There are a few versions of Eleven you could be (Government Prisoner Elle, Hamburger-Eating Elle, etc.), but let's stick with the most recognisable. If you're not planning on shaving your head (pause and think about how much time it'll save you in the morning before deciding), get yourself some kind of flesh-coloured skull cap or a bad blond wig. Then, find a high-neck, baby pink dress with a white collar, a blue jacket, striped knee socks, white Converse, and a chunky black watch. As a bonus, dribble some fake blood out of your nose, and carry around an empty box of Eggo waffles.

    Eleven, Season 2

  • What to wear: Season two Eleven is a whole different beast! She has hair now, you know, so make sure you slick yours back and (maybe) dye it a darker colour. Also smear on a liberal amount of black eyeliner, and rock black from head-to-toe: ripped T-shirt, oversize jacket, jeans, and combat boots. You're still going to need that dribble of blood coming out of your nose, though!

    Dustin, Season 2

  • What to wear: A blue tux with a light blue button-down underneath, a bow-tie, and the pièce de résistance — curly hair gelled up into a mohawk/bouffant.

    Steve, Season 2

  • What to wear: You can still wear a striped, long-sleeved polo to be Steve, but this time around, switch out the belted khakis for some '80s-fit jeans. Also add a grey-zip up, yellow gloves, a backpack, and Ray Ban sunglasses into the mix. Top it all off with some seriously high hair and a baseball bat, and you'll be good to go!

    Bob Newby

  • What to wear: Once you've stopped crying as you recall how Bob goes down in season two, throw on some blue scrubs with Bob on the pocket, and feel free to splash yourself with a ton of fake blood. Also be sure to carry around a little plush demodog so people know who you are!

    Kali and Her Gang

  • What to wear: Kali essentially wears the same thing that Eleven does after her makeover — all black, from her big hair to her eyeliner and clothing. Her crew of fellow super-people wear similarly grungey outfits, complete with plaid button-downs, XXL army green jackets, teased hair, bows, and bandanas.

    Dustin, Season 3

  • What to wear: Bulk up on forest green and gold apparel, because the colours are Dustin's calling card throughout season three. Wear khaki shorts, a green shirt with gold accents as a nod to his science camp stay, and finish it off with a gold hat (and a curly brown wig, naturally).

    Hopper, Season 3

  • What to wear: Once you've gotten yourself a baggy pair of light-wash jeans, it's all about the Hawaiian shirt, preferably one in pink and green shades.

    Erica, Season 3

  • What to wear: Once you've gotten yourself a pair of overalls and a short-sleeved shirt to go underneath (both in neon colours, preferably in clashing patterns), you're going to need a white helmet with two flashlights stuck on either side.

    Will, Season 3

  • What to wear: Step one is getting a bowl cut. Step two is getting a deep purple robe with silver accents (or muumuu, if you're in a pinch) and a matching wizard hat so you can go as Will the Wise. Don't forget his staff, either!

    Robin, Season 3

  • What to wear: Throughout season three, Robin wears her Scoops Ahoy uniform, which is bright blue with white stripes and red accents, to fully give off that nautical feel. To recreate it without buying the actual costume, simply wear a blue and white striped shirt underneath a bright blue vest with matching blue shorts. Pull your white socks up to your knees, put on some red Converse sneakers, and you're good to go.

    Eleven, Season 3

  • What to wear: Eleven is all about the bright colours in season three. Her two most notable looks are the yellow and black graphic shirt she wears towards the end of the season (above), and then her colourful romper. For the first, get a short-sleeved button-down shirt in black and yellow and tuck it into baggy black trousers (the crossed suspenders over her chest would be a nice touch, too). If you already have a short-sleeved black playsuit, you can pin colourful shapes to it. Otherwise save yourself the trouble and pick up a replica!

    Alexei, Season 3

  • What to wear: Want to dress up as the sweet Russian scientist? Get yourself a white button-down with some pens sticking out of the pocket, and smudge yourself in some dirt. Large eyeglasses will complete the look, as will a giant cherry slush from 7/11.

    Steve, Season 3

  • What to wear: Just like Robin, Steve is pretty much only seen in his Scoops Ahoy uniform in season three. His is slightly less complicated to recreate, since you'd just need a blue polo, a red handkerchief tied around your neck, and blue shorts (you can add the white stripes yourself, if you're dedicated). He also wears red Converse sneaks!

    Argyle, Season 4

  • What to wear: Argyle provided much-needed comic relief in "Stranger Things"'s terrifying fourth season, and his costume is full of bright colours and contrasting patterns that match his carefree attitude. You'll definitely need a pair of trousers and a shirt with completely clashing patterns, as well as his distinct yellow Surfer Boy Pizza shirt and hat.

    Eddie Munson, Season 4

  • What to wear: For an Eddie Munson costume, unless you have a head of '80s rocker-style curls, you'll probably need a wig. The Hellfire Club shirt also goes without saying, as well as his Dio jean vest. To complete the look, carry around an electric guitar, and maybe even get to work on your own rendition of "Master of Puppets."

    Chrissy, Season 4

  • What to wear: For Chrissy, you'll need her cheerleader costume, a cute matching green scrunchie, white tennis shoes, and some blue eyeshadow. You could even go for the customised look by getting a Hawkins High uniform and a jacket emblazoned with Chrissy's name — and carrying around a giant golden clock would be a macabre finishing touch.

    Hopper, Season 4

  • What to wear: Season four Hopper spends most of his time in a Russian prison, so there are a few ways to do his look. You could try his dark-blue prison uniform, or get your hands on a giant red, white, and blue puffy jacket to embody the slightly cosier look he adopts when Joyce finally comes to the rescue.

    Eleven, Season 4

  • What to wear: Eleven also has a number of different looks in season four, but the most easily recognisable is likely her haptic suit from Brenner's new underground lab. For this look, find a tight white romper and stick some white patches on it, and you'll be golden. A simpler choice might be finding a replica of the floral long-sleeved shirt and white jeans she wears for her epic battle in the season finale.

    Max, Season 4

  • What to wear: To replicate Max's incredible "Running Up That Hill" scene, you'll need a blue windbreaker, dark jeans, Converse, and, of course, an '80s-style tape and headphones — preferably with Kate Bush playing on loop. Bonus points if you can find a way to levitate.

    Henry/Vecna/One, Season 4

  • What to wear: The easiest way to go for a (spoiler alert!) Henry/Vecna/One costume is simply finding a white dress shirt, white dress pants, and a dark belt to embody One in his more harmless era. You could also try pulling off an actual Upside Down Vecna costume by acquiring a mask or getting creative with some lycra and foam — either way, Henry/Vecna/One is sure to be a fun Halloween villain to embody for the night.
