28/12/2018 - 01:50 PM

Another year, another batch of TV shows and movies that are turning big numbers that make us feel ancient. We saw some of our favourite movies turn 30 in 2018 [1], but can we talk about the slew of absolutely iconic TV shows turning 25 in 2019? We're talking Friends, ER, and Party of Five, just to name a few. Yep, these shows all hit the air in 1994 and made a huge impact on our lives. We're still using Friends quotes [2] in everyday life, and that's completely all right, you know?

If you want to see what other TV shows are hitting the quarter-century mark in 2019, keep reading. You might be surprised at some of them.

Party of Five

Ah, the coming-of-age tale of five siblings that got us through those rough years in the 1990s.

ER

ER is probably the most iconic doctor show and launched the careers of stars like George Clooney [3] and Julianna Margulies.

Inside the Actors Studio

You can always count on host James Lipton to get the best answers out of the celebrities on Inside the Actors Studio, especially when he asks his 10 famous questions, including "If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?"

My So-Called Life

My So-Called Life introduced us to the joys of teen angst, but — most importantly — it also introduced us to Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto [4]).

The Tick

The unlikely superhero in this animated series fought bad guys in The City with his sidekick. This show also spawned two more iterations of The Tick.

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters

This trio of young monsters experienced the same struggles with school as we all did back in 1994. It's tough to be a kid!

Aladdin

Thanks to the popularity of the movies, Disney ran Aladdin the TV series in 1994, and the story picked up after The Return of Jafar.

All That

All That, the sketch comedy show for the younger set, spawned spinoffs like The Amanda Show (starring Amanda Bynes [5]) and Kenan and Kel (starring Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell).

Allegra's Window

The kids' show featured a lot of music, a lot of puppets, and Allegra reflecting on her life as a kid at her window.

Chicago Hope

Chicago Hope is just another popular hospital-based show that focuses on its doctors' personal and professional lives, led by Adam Arkin and Hector Elizondo.

Ellen

Ellen DeGeneres [6]'s sitcom was one of the first in the US to have a character come out as gay, and it paved the way for her flourishing career.

Friends

Fans of Friends experienced all the feels during the 10 years this show was on air (and ever since, thanks to syndication). The oh-so-quotable show is one of the most iconic of our time.

Touched by an Angel

This long-running show follows angels who travel around the world granting miracles and bettering people's lives.

Gargoyles

Gargoyles save the day! In this animated series, the gargoyles come alive at night to protect the city from evil.

Gullah Gullah Island

Who could forget Binyah Binyah Polliwog, the lovable creature from Gullah Gullah Island? He helped the family on the show learn all about the local culture.

Life With Louie

Comedian Louie Anderson's animated series is based on his childhood life and even won two Emmy Awards during its run.

The Magic School Bus

If you didn't dream of going on one of Ms. Frizzle's field trips when you were younger, then what were you even doing with your life?

Models Inc.

This Melrose Place spinoff was a borderline soap opera all about a modelling agency run by Hillary Michaels (Linda Gray), who was Amanda Woodward's (Heather Locklear [7]) mom on that show. It didn't last long, but it will always be iconic.

The Secret World of Alex Mack

Alex Mack: a junior high student who's just like you! Except she's not, because she can morph into a pile of goo, thanks to getting doused with some weird chemical.

Sister, Sister

Sister, Sister made us all wish we had a twin and a cute guy like Roger living next door, to be quite honest.

Sweet Valley High

This series, based on our favourite book series by the same name, follows twins Jessica and Elizabeth through their lives as teenagers at Sweet Valley High.

Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?

Not to be confused with any of the other Carmen Sandiego iterations, this is the animated series that follows the tricky criminal as she ducks and dodges capture.

Weird Science

Based on the '80s movie of the same name, this show follows two teenagers who set out to create a dream girl on their computer, but a system glitch (and a storm) causes her to come to life.

Dennis Miller Live

Dennis Miller's weekly HBO talk show was one of a kind in its simplicity. It was nominated for and won numerous Emmys and filmed over 200 episodes.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast

This animated talk show, a reboot of an earlier version from the 1960s, is one of the first adult animated series and inspired several more adult animated shows, like Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
