What Is 13 Reasons Why Season 3 About?

A New Murder Mystery Strikes Liberty High in Season 3 of 13 Reasons Why

Get your detective hat ready, we've got a murder mystery on our hands in the new season of Netflix's controversial drama 13 Reasons Why. Following the departure of Katherine Langford as Hannah Baker, the series' biggest villain, Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice), has been killed off and his murderer is at large. The third season is sure to bring a lot of new thrills as we work to hunt down Bryce's killer when the show returns Aug. 23.

The newest trailer opens with a crime scene before surfing through the town, giving us a peek at the conflicts that are sure to arise throughout the season. Many guilty-looking faces with secrets to hide offer up more questions than answers, though. We see Montgomery de la Cruz (Timothy Granaderos) presumably now leading the pack of jocks in Bryce's absence, Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) appearing riddled with guilt at the funeral, and a new character, Ani (Grace Saif), scrubbing what appears to be a bloody garment. All with motive to strike, and with his very unpopular reputation, it's fair to say any one of Bryce's peers could be at fault.

Montgomery, in particular, seems to be at the centre of a lot of drama this season, appearing in three glimpses of conflict in the trailer. First in a scuffle with Jessica (Alisha Boe), being struck by another student. Then by Alex (Miles Heizer) in the bathroom, before appearing alongside his fellow Liberty High students at Bryce's services.

Walker's mother, Nora (played by Brenda Strong), also appears to be taking a strong stance this season, desperate for answers about her son's murder. It seems Mrs. Baker may be passing the baton as concerned mother in pursuit of justice for her child over to Mrs. Walker.

With accusations of rape, fractured relationships with his peers, and hiding behind a blanket of family wealth, Bryce has surely made a lot of enemies in the past two seasons. Only time will tell: who killed Bryce Walker?
