What Is A Black Lady Sketch Show About?

HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show Welcomes You to the Bad-B*tch Support Group

The first trailer for A Black Lady Sketch Show is here and it's everything comedy lovers could ever want. The video is less than two minutes long, but it highlights several skits, including the Bad B*tch Support Group that boasts the likes of Angela Basset and Laverne Cox, as well as a score of other well-loved guest stars.

The series debuts on HBO on Aug. 2, with a core cast made up of Robin Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Quinta Brunson. Thede, formerly of The Rundown With Robin Thede and The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore (where she was the first black woman to be head writer for a late-night talk show), created the series and serves as executive producer, along with Insecure creator Issa Rae. For the keen observer, yes, all those women are black, making the series the first sketch comedy show created, written by, and starring black women.

"I created #ablss to amplify just some of the many incredible black ladies in comedy and am so proud of it!!" Thede revealed in a Twitter post. "ALSO IT'S FUNNY AF."

The series is described to be "set in a limitless magical reality full of dynamic, hilarious characters and celebrity guests," and by the looks of the trailer, that's an understatement! Look out for more laughs when A Black Lady Sketch Show premieres on HBO Friday, Aug. 2.
