Where You Can Watch These Game of Thrones Stars After the Series Ends

16/02/2019 - 04:15 PM

It's finally on its way: the final season [1] of Game of Thrones [2] is set to air this April [3]. Even though we're dying to see how it all ends [4], we're also going to miss watching the performances of the show's amazing cast. Over the years, the Thrones cast has gone from mostly unknowns to bona-fide Hollywood stars; many have already taken on high-profile roles [5] in other big franchises too.

While their Westerosi characters [6] will be gone from our screens, many of the cast members won't be! The show's biggest stars [7] already have their next projects lined up, and we've rounded up some of the upcoming titles where you can watch your favourites long after the curtain falls on Game of Thrones.

Kit Harington

While Harington hasn't announced his next live-action project (though we have an idea what it should be [8]!), he's reprising his role in the How to Train Your Dragon animated franchise as the voice of Eret for the upcoming The Hidden World. He even poked fun at being in two dragon-related franchises with a hilarious faux-audition video [9].

Sophie Turner

After wrapping her role as Sansa Stark, Turner is returning to the role of another complicated young heroine: young Jean Gray in the current iteration of X-Men. Dark Phoenix [10] tackles the legendary storyline in which psychic mutant Jean encounters an inner force that increases her power but changes her whole personality.

Maisie Williams

Williams and her GOT sister, Sophie Turner, have been close over the years, and they're about to have even more in common. Williams is set to star as Wolfsbane [11] in X-Men: The New Mutants, joining Turner in the X-Men universe. She's also costarring with Nina Dobrev [12] and Asa Butterfield in the teen drama Then Came You, which is set for a 2019 release [13].

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

The Danish-born actor is returning to his roots after Thrones wraps up. Variety reported that he's signed on to Suicide Tourist [14], a mysterious romantic drama that involves collaborators from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Germany.

Peter Dinklage

Dinklage is following the intensity of his GOT role with a pair of voice roles in family-friendly animated sequels. He's voicing Mighty Eagle in The Angry Birds Movie 2, as well as Phil Betterman in The Croods 2. Both are brand-new roles [15] for the sequels.

Lena Headey

Headey, who plays ruthless queen Cersei Lannister, already has her post-Thrones roles lined up, and they're pretty diverse. First up is this year's Fighting With My Family, a wrestling drama based on a true story [16]. She'll follow that up with the immigration drama The Flood, which she told Variety she hopes will "change 10 minds [17], or people reconsider how they feel about someone who has lost everything . . . Or maybe it will grow a bit more compassion, understanding, curiosity or bravery."

Gwendoline Christie

Christie is one of those rare actors who's starred in two massive pop culture universes simultaneously: her role on GOT as Brienne of Tarth has overlapped with her Star Wars turn as the villainous Captain Phasma. Christie is currently reprising her role as Phasma in Star Wars Resistance, an animated series set in the years before The Force Awakens. The Verge recently reported that the series has been renewed [18] for a second season.

Emilia Clarke

One of Thrones's biggest breakout stars, Clarke has a pair of very different films in the pipeline. Above Suspicion will see her playing an FBI informant, based on a true story. Meanwhile, she's also set to star in Paul Feig's new rom-com [19] Last Christmas alongside Crazy Rich Asians leading man Henry Golding [20].

Alfie Allen

After suffering for years as Theon Greyjoy, Allen is ready for some lighter or quirkier roles. He has two films currently in postproduction: the coming-of-age comedy How to Build a Girl [21] and the Taika Waititi-helmed WWII satire Jojo Rabbit [22].
