Shrill: Aidy Bryant's New TV Series Looks Like a Freakin' Delight

Since I haven't seen the first season of Hulu's Shrill [1] quite yet, I can't say this for certain, but after watching the first teaser for it, I'm going to say it anyway: the new comedy series looks like a freakin' delight.

Starring Saturday Night Live [2] alum and all-around gem Aidy Bryant [3] in the lead role, the 6-episode series [4] is adapted from the memoir of blogger Lindy West (Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman) that is described as "the story of a fat young woman who wants to change her life — but not her body." In Hulu's version of the story, Bryant plays Annie, a journalist struggling to juggle a not-so-great boyfriend (Luka Jones), problems with her ailing parents, a perfectionist boss (John Cameron Mitchell), all while the world around her judges her for her weight. Fortunately she also has the support of Fran, her best friend and roommate played by the hilarious Lolly Adefope.

Shrill is set to premiere on March 15, and the brief first teaser offers a glimpse of what's to come. Given the well-known comedy names working behind the scenes — Elizabeth Banks, Parks and Recreation's Alexandra Rushfield, and Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels, for instance — it looks like we have quite a few laughs ahead of us.
