What Is Netflix's Criminal TV Show About?

Criminal: Netflix's New Crime Drama Starring David Tennant Includes an Interesting Twist

David Tennant (Good Omens) and Hayley Atwell (Avengers: Endgame) are just some of the exciting names attached to Netflix's intriguing new series, Criminal. In the first teaser for the series, it's revealed that the first season will revolve around "12 unique crime stories" that take place in four different countries (France, Germany, Spain, and the UK), devoting three episodes to each location. Sounds like a fairly average premise for a crime drama, no?

Well, Criminal puts a twist on the formula by setting the show entirely within the confines of a police interrogation room. Described as "a cat-and-mouse drama," the series will presumably unpack the mental conflict that sparks between the detectives working each case and the suspects they're interviewing. Although we're still waiting on a release date and full trailer, we do know that the series has recruited both on- and off-screen talent from each featured country to write, direct, and star in their respective episodes.

As for Tennant and Atwell, they'll star in the UK-centric episodes alongside Seven Seconds' Clare-Hope Ashitey. Each of their three instalments will be written by Killing Eve's George Kay and She's Out of My League's Jim Field (the latter of whom created Criminal). Check out the teaser above, and then see all the other crime-themed shows you can check out on Netflix in the meantime.
