Orange Is the New Black May Be Over, but Its Cast Isn't Going Away Anytime Soon

13/08/2019 - 03:45 PM

Orange Is the New Black [1] wrapped its final season [2] this Summer, but if you're already missing the talented cast, you don't need to! What is the Orange Is the New Black [3] cast doing next? We're so glad you asked. While several of the show's stars [4] are taking much-deserved breaks after the show's seven-season run, others have already jumped into new projects in film, TV, and even theatre! Since Orange Is the New Black was such a breakout role for many of the cast members, they've been able to tackle even higher-profile projects [5]. We can't wait to see what they do next — here's a current roundup of what's on the horizon for some of the main cast members.

Uzo Aduba

You can next see Aduba in this Fall's Miss Virginia, in which she plays a courageous inner-city mother who sparks a movement to try to protect the futures of her son and other kids like him. Also in post-production is the romantic drama Really Love, focussed on a struggling artist in Washington, D.C.

Aduba is currently in production for two more projects: one film and one TV series. She's voicing Bismuth in the upcoming Steven Universe movie, and she's co-starring with Cate Blanchett [6], Elizabeth Banks, and Rose Byrne in the historical drama Mrs. America. In that film, she's playing Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to Congress who is fighting for the Equal Rights Amendment and faces opposition from white conservative women.

Danielle Brooks

Brooks completed filming the final season of OITNB and shifted straight into stage work, starring as Beatrice in the Public Theatre's production of Much Ado About Nothing, which is slated to air on PBS this Fall. Up next on film is the drama All the Little Things We Kill and the comedy Eat Wheaties!.

Laverne Cox

Cox was one of OITNB's biggest breakout stars, so it's fitting she returned for a cameo in the final season. Since leaving the show, she's had a pretty full schedule. She has a supporting role in the upcoming rom-com Can You Keep a Secret?, based on a popular Sophie Kinsella novel, and in the dark thriller Promising Young Woman, set for a 2020 release.

Following those two films, Cox has wrapped filming on Bad Hair, a horror comedy from Dear White People's Justin Simien, and is currently shooting Jolt, a revenge-fuelled action movie.

Jackie Cruz

You can next catch Cruz in the cartel thriller 13 Steps, which follows a set of siblings who escape to Canada after their father is murdered by a cartel, but are followed by a ruthless hitman. The drama Faraway Eyes and the comedy A Nice Girl Like You have both wrapped filming and are awaiting release dates.

Most recently, Cruz was announced as part of the cast of the upcoming drama Cleveland. With a cast that includes Veronica Mars's Jason Dohring, the movie is set to focus on a struggling writer and his group of friends navigating the tough times in life.

Laura Gómez

Gómez has a career that spans beyond just the small screen. She's also a member of Spanish Repertory Theatre and does voice-over work; her next film project has not been announced.

Diane Guerrero

After wrapping both OITNB and Jane the Virgin this Summer, Guerrero is moving to the big screen. She can be seen next in the crime drama Killerman, opposite Liam Hemsworth.

Selenis Leyva

Levya's next project is the Disney+ series Diary of a Female President. Costarring Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez, it narrates the life of a tweenage Cuban-American girl as she pursues her dream of becoming president of the United States.

Natasha Lyonne

Good news for Netflix subscribers: Lyonne won't be leaving the Netflix family anytime soon! Following the success of the first season of her dark comedy Russian Doll, the series was renewed for a second season, mostly likely in time for a 2020 release.

She's also got a political dramedy in the pipeline. Irresistible is a Jon Stewart-created film that also stars Steve Carell [7], Debra Messing [8], Rose Byrne, and Topher Grace [9].

Taryn Manning

Manning's next project is the true-crime film The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, in which she plays Faye Resnick, a friend of the Simpsons. She also starred in The Gateway, a new drama film co-starring Olivia Munn. Both projects are currently in post-production and slated for 2019 release dates.

Manning is certainly keeping busy in her post-OITNB career. She's currently filming The Latin from Manhattan, based on the story of an adult film star in 1970s New York City.

Adrienne C. Moore

Moore's post-OITNB career is already taking off! She voices Etta Candy in the upcoming Wonder Woman: Bloodlines opposite Rosario Dawson [10] as Wonder Woman. The film, with a plot still shrouded in mystery, is the first Wonder Woman animated film in a decade.

In post-production now is Modern Persuasion, a modern-day romance loosely adapted from Jane Austen's final novel, Persuasion.

Kate Mulgrew

Mulgrew's next project is a far cry from the dark comedy of OINTB. She's lending her voice to Infinity Train, an animated fantasy series for kids and tweens, where she plays "The Cat." Up next is The Magnificent Meyersons, about an extraordinary family over the course of a single day in New York.

Dascha Polanco

After the dark turn of her final OITNB arc, Polanco is switching gears to something much more upbeat. She's spent this Summer filming the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical In the Heights, in which she plays a new character named Cuca. Additionally, she has the digital thriller iGilbert in post-production for a release later this year.

Laura Prepon

Prepon has not yet announced her next project.

Taylor Schilling

Schilling, who was one of only two actors to appear in all 91 episodes of OITNB, has not yet announced her next project.

Yael Stone

Stone has not yet announced her next project.
