Here's Where You Can See The Stranger Things Cast Next — and It's Not the Upside Down

19/07/2019 - 09:00 AM

Just as their characters went from playing Dungeons & Dragons [1] to fighting off a real demogorgon [2], the talented Stranger Things [3] actors have taken on creative pursuits beyond their Netflix show. This year, we've seen David Harbour switching his police uniform for ripped red abs in the Hellboy [4] reboot and Millie Bobby Brown facing gargantuan creatures in Godzilla: King of the Monsters [5]. Horror-lovers probably also know that Finn Wolfhard [6] will be reprising his role as Richie in It: Chapter Two [7], with funnyman Bill Hader as his adult counterpart. Among the cast, there are tons of exciting projects ahead on the big and small screens. Keep reading to learn where you'll see your favourite Stranger Things [8] actors before the series' fourth season [9] — they won't be in the Upside Down just yet!

Winona Ryder

Joyce really left us hanging with her sad decision [10] at the end of season three, eh? We might not get to see Mama Byers for a minute, but we'll definitely be able to witness Winona Ryder [11] work her magic as Evelyn Finkel in the upcoming miniseries The Plot Against America, which imagines a world where FDR lost the election against Charles Lindbergh in 1940.

Of course, there's also a bunch of throwback Winona classics that you can watch right now, including Beetlejuice and Heathers. It's also worth checking out her recent rom-com Destination Wedding [12] with the internet's crush, Keanu Reeves [13].

David Harbour

Whether or not Hopper is still alive [14] is unclear, but David Harbour will definitely still be lingering in the pop-culture sphere. Harbour has had a big year, reprising his fan-favourite part on Stranger Things [15] and playing the titular role in Hellboy [16]. He'll also star across Chris Hemsworth and Manoj Bajpayee in this year's Dhaka. MCU fans should rejoice as well — the highly anticipated Black Widow film will feature Stranger Things' beloved sheriff.

If you love Hop's goofy side, you might appreciate Harbour in Frankenstein's Monster's Monster, Frankenstein [17], a Netflix mockumentary about him uncovering his father's long-lost televised play. It won't be too long a watch — Harbour tackles the wacky premise all in 32 minutes.

Millie Bobby Brown

Eleven's powers [18] are in limbo right now, but Millie Bobby Brown is crushing it in her career. She made her film debut as Madison Russell in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and will be reprising the role in the sequel next year. She'll also take on the titular character in the film adaptation of Enola Holmes, which is based on Nancy Springer's series about Sherlock Holmes' kid sister. Another book-to-movie project has also poached her for her talents — The Thing About Jellyfish will welcome her as the lead character Suzy Swanson.

Gaten Matarazzo

While he's not hanging around Steve at Scoops Ahoy [19] or singing with his onscreen girlfriend, Suzie [20], Gaten Matarazzo will still be keeping busy. You'll hear him soon in the animated adventure film Hump alongside Ramy Youssef and Simon Pegg.

Netflix also recently announced that Matarazzo will be the executive producer of the series Prank Encounters, which will be about people getting pranked on their first day of work. While the announcement drew online backlash, Matarazzo made some clarifications regarding the show's premise [21], saying, "I just want to let everybody know that those who participated were fully aware it was going to be a one-day gig going in, nobody was promised a part-time or full-time job, and everybody was compensated."

Finn Wolfhard

Before Mike's romance with Eleven [22] gets more intense, Finn Wolfhard [23] will be spending time before season four promoting a number of different projects, including his role as Richie in It Chapter Two [24]. Later this year, you'll see him in the movie adaptation of The Goldfinch [25] as a younger Boris and in the animated version of The Addams Family as Pugsley.

Next year will also be busy and exciting for Wolfhard. He'll be leading The Turning, a take on Henry James's The Turn of the Screw with Steven Spielberg [26] as the executive producer. Also, look out for him in the latest reboot of Ghostbusters [27]!

Maya Hawke

Maya Hawke pretty much stole our hearts as Steve's wry and smart fellow ice cream slinger Robin [28]. This year, Hawke will also appear in Quentin Tarantino [29]'s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [30] as a small part of the notorious Manson family [31]. You can also keep an eye out for her in the upcoming movie Mainstream, where she'll star alongside Andrew Garfield and Alexa Demie, and Human Capital, where she'll be leading with Marisa Tomei and Alex Wolff. Whatever she does next, you can bet that Ethan Hawke will be a very proud dad [32].

Sadie Sink

Portraying Mad Max, Sadie Sink will, like her costar Finn Wolfhard [33], be joining a handful of horror projects. She'll play Haley in the horror movie Eli, which will be about a boy who goes to a secluded clinic that becomes a haunted prison of sorts. R.L. Stine readers [34] should also rejoice because she'll be joining the Fear Street sequel in 2020.

Caleb McLaughlin

We're sure that Lucas will be keeping busy looking after his little sister, Erica [35], and winning back Max's heart [36] while we wait for season four. For now, we can expect Caleb McLaughlin to appear in a few cool big-screen projects. This year, he stars across André Holland, Zazie Beetz, and Kyle McLaughlin in Steven Soderbergh's High Flying Bird, a Netflix drama [37] penned by Moonlight's Tarell Alvin McCraney. McLaughlin will also lend his talents in something a little less highbrow but still fun: Dora and the Lost City of Gold [38], in which he voices Tico the Squirrel.

Noah Schnapp

Prior to giving us the gem of Will Byers, Noah Schnapp had a few big projects to his name, including The Peanuts Movie and Bridge of Spies. While Schnapp doesn't have too many movies or shows announced at the moment, we'll get to see him on the big screen across from Anjelica Huston in Waiting For Anya. In the World War II film, he plays a young shepherd who joins forces with a widow (Huston) to help smuggle young Jewish children from the south of France to Spain.

Priah Ferguson

Besides Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson [39] has also been a lovely addition to the Stranger Things [40] cast, portraying Lucas's precocious kid sister Erica. She recently appeared in the political comedy The Oath and made a cameo on Atlanta prior to her breakout role on the Netflix series. In 2015, she ventured in philanthropy by becoming a spokeskid for the United Way of Greater Atlanta, a nonprofit that advocates for children's well-being in Atlanta.

She doesn't have any projects announced at the moment, but the season three ending [41] suggests that she will have a bigger role in the show's next installation.

Dacre Montgomery

Even though Billy wasn't the best guy [42], we can't say that we won't miss Dacre Montgomery on Stranger Things [43]. While we don't know if Billy will pop again in flashbacks or otherwise, Montgomery will still be around. He appears in this year's The Broken Heart Gallery, a film about a lovelorn New York curator who collects items related to breakups. The movie adaptation of Peter Carey's book True History of the Kelly Gang will also feature him alongside Russell Crowe [44] and George MacKay.

Natalia Dyer

Besides Stranger Things [45], Natalia Dyer has also popped up on Netflix' trippy arthouse thriller Velvet Buzzsaw as a timid assistant named Coco. Her film Yes, God, Yes, a comedy that takes on female sexuality and the church, recently showed at SXSW to positive reviews. In the movie, Dyer's BFF is played by Francesca Reale, who's also Hawkins's newest lifeguard Heather [46]. And don't worry, Dyer and Charlie Heaton [47] are still going strong even if Nancy and Jonathan might struggle with their new long-distance relationship!

Charlie Heaton

Speaking of Heaton, we're pretty excited to see him starring across from Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy in The New Mutants [48]. He'll be playing Sam Guthrie, aka the mutant Cannonball from Marvel Comics' X-Men. Whether or not we'll see a Deadpool cameo [49] is yet to be determined, but we're still pretty stoked about this upcoming movie, which was pushed back for two years to be workshopped into something even scarier.

Cara Buono

Long before playing Mike and Nancy's mother on Stranger Things [50], Cara Buono had a successful TV career, appearing on series such as Mad Men [51], The Sopranos, and The Romanoffs. She also recently played Stacey in the sports film Monsters and Men alongside John David Washington and Anthony Ramos. Aside from acting, Buono currently runs Liberty United [52], an organisation that fashions illegal ammunition and guns provided by the police into jewellery and sends a portion of its sales toward gun violence prevention.
