You Definitely Know the Guy Playing Aquaman's Evil Brother

30/07/2018 - 11:35 PM

The countdown for the December release of Aquaman is on, and we can hardly wait for it to reach the big screen. Jason Momoa [1] is the star, but he's just one of the actors in the all-star cast [2]. Nicole Kidman [3], Amber Heard, and Willem Dafoe are all appearing as well, but one character in particular caught our interest in the trailer [4]: Orm, Aquaman's brother and nemesis [5]. If Orm looks familiar to you, then we can tell you why. From starring in movies such as The Phantom of the Opera and Insidious to being featured in television series such as Girls and A Gifted Man, actor Patrick Wilson sure has an impressive roster of past roles. Here are eleven of them you may have seen!

Angels in America (2003)

Patrick Wilson plays the clean-cut Joe Pitt in the 2003 HBO miniseries, Angels in America, alongside big names such as Al Pacino [6], Meryl Streep [7], and Mary-Louise Parker. Set in the 1980s, this show explores both social and political themes, such as the AIDs epidemic and the Reagan administration.

The Conjuring (2013)

Equal parts eerie and suspenseful, The Conjuring tells the story of two paranormal investigators, played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, and the demonic discoveries they find in a family's new home — a rundown farmhouse in Rhode Island.

Fargo (2015)

Wilson joins cast members such as Kirsten Dunst [8], Kieran Culkin, and Ted Danson, for the 2015 second season of the critically acclaimed television series Fargo. This season is set in 1979, and focuses on the characters' relation and involvement in a hit and run and a triple homicide.

Girls (2013 and 2017)

In Girls Wilson plays Joshua, the very short-lived love interest of Lena Dunham [9]'s character, Hannah. Joshua, an attractive doctor, and Hannah cross paths after she confesses she has been throwing garbage out in his trashcans. They reconnect years later in season six (but, no spoilers here!)

Insidious (2010)

Insidious, starring Wilson, Rose Byrne [10], and Barbara Hershey, is the first movie in the Insidious franchise. Bone-chilling and blood-curdling, the film tells the story of a couple's young son who becomes inhibited with ghosts and demonic spirits. Try watching this movie without screaming — we dare you!

A Gifted Man (2011)

Wilson plays the lead role of Dr. Michael Holt in the touching television drama series A Gifted Man. A Gifted Man tells the story of a New York City surgeon who is visited by the spirit of his recently deceased ex-wife, played by Jennifer Ehle.

The Phantom of the Opera (2004)

Who could forget 2005's The Phantom of the Opera? Starring other recognisable names such as Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler [11], Wilson plays the love interest of Christine (played by Rossum) and rival of the Phantom (played by Gerard Butler).

Hard Candy (2005)

Starring big names such as Wilson, Ellen Page, and Sandra Oh [12], Hard Candy is an early 2000s thriller about what happens when two strangers meet on the Internet.

Little Children (2006)

Set in suburban Massachusetts, Little Children boasts an impressive roster of actors including Wilson, Kate Winslet [13], Jennifer Connelly [14], and Noah Emmerich. The film takes the viewer on a journey of how a few suburbanites' lives unexpectedly meet.

Watchmen (2009)

Set in 1985, Wilson plays Nite Owl, a Batman-like superhero, in the 2009 film Watchmen.

The Founder (2016)

The Founder follows the story of McDonald's funder Ray Kroc (played by Michael Keaton), and the drive and persistence needed to help make it one of the biggest restaurant chains in the world. In this movie, Wilson plays wealthy restaurant owner Rollie Smith, the former husband of Kroc's third wife.
