Who Plays Prince Philip in The Crown Season 3?

Get Your First Glimpse of Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip in The Crown Season 3

Say hello to the new Prince Philip! Tobias Menzies is taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth II's prickly husband in The Crown season three from season one and two's Matt Smith. The new season of the Netflix royal drama has recast all the major players in the series so as to better reflect the ageing process, rather than using layer upon layer of prosthetics on the original stars: Menzies is taking over for Smith, Olivia Colman is replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Helena Bonham Carter is replacing Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Matthew Goode is leaving to make room for Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones.

At first rumours swirled that Avengers: Infinity War actor Paul Bettany was in line to replace Smith as Prince Philip for seasons three and four, but in the end the streaming giant decided to go with the 44-year-old British actor. Menzies played Frank and Jack Randall on the first three seasons of Outlander, and last starred in Ridley Scott's The Terror on AMC. Given the gravitas he's brought to past roles, we have no doubt that he'll be able to nail the role of Prince Philip.
