Goodbye, Pepper Potts! Gwyneth Paltrow Announces Exit From Marvel Universe

19/02/2019 - 06:07 PM

Get ready to say goodbye to Pepper Potts! Gwyneth Paltrow [1] is the cover star of Variety's Oscars 2019 issue [2], and in the accompanying interview, the 46-year-old actress confirmed she's officially retiring from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame [3]. "I mean, I'm a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point," Paltrow said. "I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friends with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau [4]. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to the fans."

Paltrow first joined the Marvel universe as Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) personal assistant turned love interest Virginia "Pepper" Potts in 2008's Iron Man. Even though Paltrow is done with Marvel movies, she didn't rule out the possibility of making a cameo [5] in the future. "I feel honoured to be a part of something that people are so passionate about," she said. "Of course, if they said, 'Can you come back for a day?,' I will always be there if they need me." Catch Avengers: Endgame in theatres [6] on April 26.
