Who Is Performing at Adele's Hyde Park Show?

Meet the Girl Gang Loved by Adele Ahead of Her Hyde Park Show

Britain's favourite songbird Adele is returning to the capital this weekend for her British Summer Time Hyde Park show in London. She might have recently bought an LA mansion with boyfriend Rich Paul, but the 34-year-old is expected to bask in some "Hometown Glory". The singer-songwriter hasn't performed at a big public event in the UK since 2017, aside from the filming of her ITV show "An Audience With Adele" and the BRITS 2022, and tickets to the show are like gold dust.

British Summer Time, also known as BST Hyde Park, is an iconic yearly festival that has seen the likes of The Rolling Stones, Barbra Streisand, Kylie Minogue, and Taylor Swift headline over the years. And now, after postponing her Las Vegas residency earlier this year, it's Adele's turn to take to the London stage on 1 and 2 July.

While tickets sold out within a few minutes of going on sale, some fans have taken to Twitter to admit they will be getting as close as possible to get in on the action. One user writes: "Anyone else just going to go to Hyde Park with a picnic and booze, sit outside the hoardings and hear the whole set anyway? #Adele"

Those who were lucky enough to get a ticket won't just get to witness Adele's vocals pull at their heartstrings; she is bringing a whole girl gang with her.

The 15-time Grammy Award winner announced on her Instagram: "The lineup for my Hyde park shows next week is going to blow your socks off!! An all female bill, from new artists that I'm obsessed with to the heavenly @spaceykacey to one of my favourite artists of all time @gabrielleuk who I've loved since I was 4!! It's going to be incredible, there's a whole host of us performing all day, I can't wait to share the main stage with you ladies."

Gabrielle, Kacey Musgraves, Mahalia, and Self Esteem are just a few of the female artists that will grace the stage alongside this weekend, although it's not clear yet whether the entire list of supporters will perform on both days or split across the weekend.

So, who are incredible female singers on the roster? Read on for everything you need to know about the artists that have got the Adele stamp of approval.

Who Is Gabrielle?

Gabrielle is undeniably the trailblazer of the group, having released her chart-topping debut single "Dreams" back in 1993. You're likely to have heard "Out of Reach" from the soundtrack to the film "Bridget Jones's Diary", as well as songs "Rise" and "Sunshine", too.

The singer fits into the R&B, pop and soul genres and cites Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Bobby Womack, Soul II Soul, Lisa Stansfield, and Matronix as her biggest influences. Adele says the '90s hitmaker is one of her biggest musical inspirations, and Gabrielle hasn't been shy about vocally reciprocating the love. She's publicly described Adele as "flawless" and "phenomenal" to BANG Showbiz.

In 2021, Gabrielle appeared on the UK version of "The Masked Singer", dressed as Harlequin, and shortly after announced the release of her seventh album "Do it Again". The album is primarily a covers album and features songs from Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Rihanna, and Tracy Chapman (and FYI, it's amazing).

Gabrielle, who is now 52, famously wears an eyepatch or covers one eye with her sunglasses or hair whenever she is in public. This is reportedly because she has had ptosis — the drooping of one eyelid — since childhood, and felt extremely insecure about it. That hasn't stopped Gabrielle from becoming one of the most successful soul singers of her generation, though. Her eye accessories are iconic.

Talking about the Hyde Park gig, the singer commented on Adele's post: "Oh my gosh, I absolutely adore this woman and I can't wait to be a part of this incredible line up, that is led by the fierce Adele."

Who Is Kacey Musgraves?

Adele is bringing a piece of the USA to Hyde Park in the form of American country singer Kacey Musgraves. Raised in Texas, Musgraves started writing music at the age of 8 and began recording at just 18 years old.

She has won six Grammy Awards after rising to fame following her appearance on reality TV singing competition "Nashville Star" in 2007. From there, the 33-year-old toured with the likes of Harry Styles and Katy Perry. Pretty impressive!

Musgraves is now a massive deal in her own right. She's probably best known for her fourth studio album, "Golden Hour", which won Album of the Year and Best Country album at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019.

You're likely to have heard her songs "Rainbow", "Blowin' Smoke", "Slow Burn", and "High Horse", but you may also know her Christmas albums or cover of "All Is Found" on Disney's Frozen II soundtrack.

The singer has expressed her excitement about performing at the festival this weekend, writing: "HYDE F*CKING PARK with @adele and a bunch of other talented queens." We love to see it.

Who Is Self Esteem?

Self Esteem, whose real name is Rebecca Lucy Taylor, is a 35-year-old English singer-songwriter who you need to have on your radar. Previously dedicated to her band Slow Club, Taylor went solo and released her first single, "Your Wife" as Self Esteem in 2017.

After a couple of UK tours and three albums later, Self Esteem started to gain traction in 2021 when her album "Prioritise Pleasure" was ranked the best album of 2021 by The Guardian, The Sunday Times, and Gigwise. Taylor was nominated for best British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards in 2022, and her fan base has grown rapidly since.

This isn't the first time Self Esteem has performed at BST Hyde Park. She supported Florence + The Machine back in 2019, so is a dab hand at the big event.

Never heard her music? Start with "I Do This All The Time", "You Forever" and "Prioritise Pleasure". You won't regret it.

Who Is Mahalia?

Mahalia Burkmar, who goes simply by Mahalia, is a British Jamaican singer, songwriter, and actress. The artist, who is from Leicestershire, is responsible for absolute bangers "I Wish I Missed My Ex", "Simmer", "Sober", and "What You Did".

If you haven't heard Mahalia's music (we're not judging you, but where have you been?), you may still recognise her face from the 2016 film Brotherhood. Mahalia started her music career at a young age, writing her first song at 8 and signing a record deal just five years later.

After releasing her debut album "Head Space" in 2012, Mahalia was introduced to Ed Sheeran who she supported on tour and lists as one of her musical influences.

The 24-year-old won Best Female Act and Best R&B/Soul Act at the 2020 MOBO Awards, was nominated for Best R&B Performance at the 63rd Grammy Awards, and was included in the 2021 Forbes under 30 list.

Mahalia's voice is undoubtedly unique and totally irresistible, and she has said she is inspired by Gabrielle, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, and Corinne Bailey Rae.

She's not nonchalant about showing her admiration for Adele either, taking to Instagram to announce her participation in the BST Hyde Park event. "Too many pinch me moments at the minute to take!!! I can't wait for this… thank you @adele," she posted.

The singer also commented on Adele's post: "dreamssssss come true" with three crying emojis. It's safe to say Mahalia is excited to perform this weekend.

Who Is Nilüfer Yanya?

Nilüfer Yanya is another supporting act that is waving the flag for the UK. Yanya grew up in London and was raised by an Irish and Barbadian mother and Turkish father.

The singer, songwriter, and musician plays predominantly guitar rock, indie rock, and alternative rock, after learning how to shred on the guitar at the age of 12. She is also influenced by indie rock, soul, jazz, and trip hop, making for quite an eclectic sound.

After some success on SoundCloud, Yanya rejected the opportunity to join a girl group produced by One Direction's Louis Tomlinson in 2014, which is a girl boss move, if you ask us.

She released "Small Crimes/Keep on Calling" in 2016 and her debut studio album "Miss Universe" in 2019, which saw her gain critical acclaim.

If you're unfamiliar with Yanya's work, we recommend giving her recent album "PAINLESS" a listen. It is fire.

The artist has said she "can't wait" to perform at Adele's two-night show in Hyde Park, and we can't wait to see what's next for her.

Who Is Tiana Major9?

Tiana Thomas-Ambersley, who goes by Tiana Major9 professionally, said she "can't wait" to perform this weekend alongside this "amazjng lineup."

The British singer-songwriter grew up in a Jamaican household in Newham, London. Thomas-Ambersley started singing gospel music in church from the age of 5, and she gained local recognition when she made it to the finals of the MOBOs UnSung competition.

She got the name "Major9" from the major ninth chord, which is a chord predominantly found in jazz. Thomas-Ambersley is influenced by the genre, but her music is a mixture of R&B, soul, and reggae as well.

The 26-year-old was nominated for Best R&B Song at the Grammy Awards in 2021 for her song "Collide", which is totally dreamy. You may also recognise Tiana's silky smooth voice from Stormzy's song "Rainfall", which she sings backing vocals on.

Chrissi is an Essex-based musician and singer. The up-and-coming star told her Instagram followers her big news, writing: "Cannot actually believe I'm physically typing this but I'll be opening on the second stage for @adele at Hyde Park. What the f*ck. Adele posted my name. Onto her Instagram. What the f*ck."

She grew up immersed in Trinidadian culture and the UK's electronic music scene, and you can definitely hear this influence in her music.

Her song "Back In The Day" has more than one million streams on Spotify and is the perfect example of the pop/soul/alternative music she makes.

The artist previously told PileRats: "The themes I usually cover are unrequited love, heartbreak or once in a while there's a cheesy love song that's actually quite hopeful. When I find a good song it almost feels like a hug when I listen to it, I want to provide that with at least one of my songs for at least one human being. Complete comfort and happiness."

Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter 19-year-old Bonnie Kempley can't quite believe that she is supporting Adele.

"I'm supporting @adele in Hyde Park next week. Ehhhhhhh yeah… what? I feel so grateful to be on such an incredible lineup of women. Songs like 'Someone Like You' made me feel so powerful when I was a shy lil nine year old. 21 pretty much soundtracked my life at the age. Not that I could relate to any of it but it provided a good respite after a long day at school learning how to spell, count and not electrocute myself etc," she explained on Instagram.

Kemplay might be young, but she has a solid fanbase and three incredible EPs and singles to offer. She describes her music as "bedroom indie sad-core", and we are into it.

The young performer was named the UK's top emerging musical talent after winning the BBC Live Lounge introducing talent search, which was judged by Sam Fender, Arlo Parks, Tom Grennan, and Wolf Alice's Ellie Roswell.

Ruti Olajugbagbe, who simply goes by Ruti, said she "screamed in Tottenham Court Road station" when her agent told her the news over the phone.

"I don't really know how to explain it when I think about it and talk about it, because it's quite unbelievable for me," she told Radio 1's Newsbeat. "It's so mind-blowing. Adele was one of the big artists that I just aspired to sing like when I was younger. So the fact that it's kind of come a bit full-circle where I'm supporting her, that she wants me to be at this show, I don't really understand what's happening."

Ruti won ITV's "The Voice" in 2018, where she joined Sir Tom Jones' team and led the Welsh crooner to victory.

Shortly after winning, her winner's single "Dreams" (a cover of The Cranberries song) went to number one on the UK iTunes Store and reached number 14 on the UK Singles Chart.

Singer, writer, and multi-instrumentalist from the coastal town of Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands, TAMZENE "can't believe" she's one Adele's chosen ones.

The 19-year-old plays the piano, violin, saxophonist, guitar, and writes her own music. How impressive is that? The young talent is currently a full-time student at Leeds College of Music, while collaborating with producer Joe McAlinden — one of Scotland's top songwriters and producers.

Keen to find out more about her unique music? Listen to "Called You Out", "Cut Me Out Your Photos", and "Accidentally Told You".
