Life has a way of giving you just what you need when you least expect it, and the trailer for Ammonite proves just that. Famed palaeontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet), who was a real person, believes her days of great discoveries are behind her as she finds common fossils for rich tourists to support herself. So when the rich Roderick Murchison (James McArdle) asks Mary to look after his wife, Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan), she can't refuse, and in the process, Charlotte and Mary discover there's a much deeper connection between them.
Set against the brutal yet beautiful backdrop of the south west coast, and written and directed by Francis Lee, Ammonite highlights both Winslet and Ronan's top-notch acting. From their furtive glances and subtle hand touches, you can feel the slow burn of their yearning. Although the trailer gives us glimpses of happiness, something tells us you're going to need a few tissues. Despite the fact we may bawl our eyes out, we're ready to escape to the 1840s when the film premieres on 13 November.
