After Warner Bros. announced that 2021's The Batman wouldn't include leading man Ben Affleck, we couldn't wait to find out who would take up the cowl and defend Gotham City. We finally got our answer when Robert Pattinson officially signed on as the new Bruce Wayne for Matt Reeves's noir-esque action film, joining a few other famous faces. Although Jonah Hill was initially rumoured to be joining the cast as a villain, talks with the studio fell through. The Batman then found a major comic foe for the Dark Knight to take on in the form of the Riddler, who will be portrayed by Paul Dano. Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman The 33-year-old actor, who stars opposite William DaFoe in the upcoming film The Lighthouse, is confirmed to star as the young Bruce Wayne in the new trilogy. 1 / 10 Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Westworld star is in negotiations to play Commissioner Jim Gordon, the classic ally to the Dark Knight. Jim has been previously portrayed on the silver screen by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and J.K. Simmons in Zack Snyder's Justice League. 2 / 10 Jonah Hill as Edward Nigma / The Riddler As first reported by Deadline, Hill is in talks to play a well-known villain in the Batman mythology. Collider reported that Hill is negotiating to play the Riddler, while The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the specific role hasn't been decided, and the Penguin has also been discussed. 3 / 10 Paul Dano as the Riddler/Edward Nashton Image Source: Getty / Paul Archuleta Variety reported that after Jonah Hill's exit in the film, Dano took on the role. Alfred has previously been portrayed in film by Michael Caine in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Michael Gough in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman film series, and Jeremy Irons in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League. 6 / 10 John Turturro as Carmine Falcone Image Source: Getty / Stefania D'Alessandro On 22 Nov., 2019, Reeves announced via Twitter that Turturro would take on the role of major underworld crime boss Carmine Falcone.
