17 Romantic Comedies From the 2010s That Will Sweep You Off Your Feet

Emma Stone basically stars in the modern teen version of The Scarlet Letter, and we're entirely here for it. After striking a deal to have fake sex with a guy, Stone's character Olive develops a reputation as her high school's Hester Prynne when she makes a business out of fake sex in exchange for gift cards. And we can't forget to mention that the star-studded cast includes Stanley Tucci as her father, Patricia Clarkson as her mother, and Penn Badgley as her love interest! Paul Feig's Bridesmaids really brings out the comedy in romantic comedy — none of us have gotten over that horrifyingly hilarious food poisoning scene. SNL's Kristen Wiig shines as the lovable hot mess Annie, who seethes with jealousy when her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) introduces her to the uber posh Helen (Rose Byrne) as she plans her wedding. Before Bradley Cooper broke our hearts as Jackson Maine in A Star Is Born, he played Silver Linings Playbook's lovably imperfect Pat, a former teacher and divorcee struggling with bipolar disorder. As he tries to get his life together, he becomes friends with a young widow named Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who convinces him to join her in a dance competition. Yearning for a smart, realistic rom-com? Look no further. Celeste and Jesse Forever is a breakup movie, but it's one with heart. Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg play the titular characters, who married young and have now decided that it's best that they get a divorce but still stay best friends. Celeste begins to regret her decision, but a hot Chris Messina in yoga class might just help her consciously uncouple.

Once director John Carney delivers his signature charm to this breezy, fun romantic musical. Mark Ruffalo as a disgruntled, burnt out music producer and Keira Knightley as a heartbroken indie artist works in a weird way. What can we say? The chemistry between the two leads is solid, and the bops are catchy. We're also a little obsessed with the star-studded cast, which includes Catherine Keener, Hailee Steinfeld, and even Adam Levine himself.

A Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary) rom-com on this list is obligatory, of course. Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) discovers that the men in his family can time-travel, so he uses this power to his advantage when he finds love with Mary (Rachel McAdams). In addition to Tim's romantic farces, we also see how this power affects his family life. This is a tearjerker for sure, so be sure to keep an arsenal of tissues nearby while watching it.

Putting behind his Harry Potter past, Daniel Radcliffe stars in What If? as Wallace, a medical school dropout who discovered his girlfriend hooking up with his professor. Going to a house party one night, he has a total meet-cute moment with Chantry (Zoe Kazan), an animator who happens to be in a relationship when he meets her. Also, a pre-Kylo Ren Adam Driver screams, "I just had sex, and I'm about to eat NACHOS," so, uh, yeah, it's a must-watch!

Gillian Robespierre's thoughtful directorial debut follows Donna (Jenny Slate), a young comic who develops a crush on a one night stand after accidentally getting pregnant from their little rendezvous. Obvious Child centres on the issue of abortion, destigmatizing the process while threading it into a cute, understated rom-com story.

Trainwreck is a friendly reminder that Bill Hader can definitely get it, even as an awkward sports doctor. He plays the love interest and interview subject of Amy Schumer's journalist character, who, as she's taught by her father, believes that monogamy isn't realistic. While still deploying her signature raunchy comedy, Schumer, the lead actress and screenwriter, brings sweetness and depth to this complicated character. Also, the supporting cast is dazzling as well, including LeBron James, Tilda Swinton, and Brie Larson.

Illuminating the sweet details of the Obamas' first date (Michelle was technically her husband's boss), Southside With You is cute as hell. There are a few light jokes thrown in, but the best part about the movie is the easy connection between Tika Sumpter and Parker Sawyers, who perfectly portray the power couple.

Well, Damien Chazelle did that. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone portray two struggling artists in LA who fall in love but find their relationship struggling as their careers take off. The Moonlight mix-up and Gosling explaining jazz to John Legend aside, La La Land is a striking cinematic masterpiece that's a comedy, romance, musical, and drama bundled up with impeccable choreography and beautiful set design.

Married writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon penned the story of their relationship in the Oscar-nominated The Big Sick. The rom-com explores Nanjiani's struggling stand-up comedy days, his Pakistani family's disapproval of his romance, and the scary illness that struck Gordon (played by Zoe Kazan) when they were still dating.

In this sweet coming-of-age film, Nick Robinson stars as Simon Spier, a closeted teenage boy who begins a You've Got Mail type of relationship online with a boy named Blue. Love, Simon follows this central mystery, as well as how Simon comes out to his friends and family. Not only is the movie heartwarming, it also has the indie pop soundtrack of your dreams, incorporating Bleachers, The 1975, Troye Sivan, and more.

If there's one word to describe Crazy Rich Asians, it's lavish. Boasting the first all-Asian cast in a major American film in 25 years, this adaptation of Kevin Kwan's bestselling novel takes us all the way to a destination wedding in Singapore. Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) discovers that her boyfriend (Henry Golding) is loaded, and she goes out on a limb to impress his stern mother (Michelle Yeoh).

Based on Jenny Han's YA novel, Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before instantly charmed viewers. It follows the life of Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor), a young woman who lives with her widowed father and two sisters. She writes secret letters for all of the boys that she has intense crushes on and discovers one day that someone has sent them all out. In an attempt to cover things up, she begins a fake romance with one of the letter recipients — Peter Kavinsky, aka Noah Centineo, the Internet's beloved boyfriend.

Gina Rodriguez plays a New York-based writer who gets the job of her dreams on the west coast, but the happy news becomes heartbreaking when she and her boyfriend of nine years (Lakeith Stanfield) decide to split. Luckily, she has the right gal pals (DeWanda Wise and Brittany Snow) to help her celebrate her big move. Someone Great is part stoner comedy and part 500 Days of Summer, so excellent that it inspired Taylor Swift to pen "Death By a Thousand Cuts."

Ali Wong gets to make out with Daniel Dae Kim, Randall Park, and freaking Keanu Reeves, so of course this is on our list! But hot men aside, Always Be My Maybe does have a heartwarming story. Set in San Francisco, it follows Sasha Tran (Wong), a successful chef who returns home to open a new restaurant and finds herself rekindling her relationship with her childhood best friend.
