Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock Starring in Boxing Day Film

Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock Is Making Her Film Debut in Boxing Day

From giving birth to twins to making history at this year's BRIT Awards, life doesn't seem to stop for Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Adding another achievement to the long list, the 29-year-old is starring in a Christmas film that is on its way to our movie screens.

Aptly titled Boxing Day, the film be will be released on 2 Dec., 2021, just in time for the festive season. It was announced in November last year that the Little Mix star had landed her debut film role in the upcoming festive flick, which also marks Aml Ameen's (Kidulthood and I May Destroy You) directorial debut. With filming having taken place in London, the singer worked alongside an ensemble cast to bring Ameen's vision to life.

Boxing Day stars Ameen as Melvin, a British author living in the States who returns to London for Christmas to introduce his eccentric British-Caribbean family to his American fiancée, played by Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder). Joining Pinnock and Ameen is Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Small Axe's Sheyi Cole and Robbie Gee.

The film appears to see Leigh-Anne returning to her singing roots, as she was photographed filming in front of a tinsel-covered microphone by Tower Bridge, with a costar playing the guitar behind her, earlier in the year. It looked as if she could be serenading her character's love interest, but we'll have to wait and see. While not many more details have emerged, the movie has been described as a celebration of love and familial bonds.

Sharing her thoughts on her appearance in the film when filming wrapped in January, Pinnock wrote on Instagram: "And that's a WRAP! My first ever film and hopefully not the last! I think I got the bug now. I am so honoured to be starring in #BoxingDay with @warnerbrosuk and @film4 coming to a screen near you next Christmas!"

"This has been a dream from start to finish with the most incredible cast and team. And it wouldn't have been possible without the belief of @brucepurnell113 and @amlameenbaby. @amlameenbaby you wise wise owl. Thank you for mentoring me and taking me under your wing. You inspire me so much and I hope I've made you proud! We came here to win so let's keep winning."

Ameen told Deadline: "It is such an honour to be teaming up with Warner Bros. Pictures, Film4 and BFI to bring Black British culture to the world in this universal holiday rom-com. It's long been a dream of mine to capture films that reflect the wonderfully multicultural city that raised me while sharing stories from the diary of my life."

On 6 October, Pinnock shared the film's official trailer on Twitter, with a sweet caption that read "Guys I'm going to be in a movie.. I can't tell you how proud and over whelmed I feel right now! An all black cast Christmas RomCom... Boxing Day is Out December 3rd in cinemas! Please support and spread the word! I'm so flipping excited for this x Leigh"
