Which Character Will Lead Future Bridgerton Seasons? Here's What We Know

04/04/2024 - 01:45 PM

Netflix's adaptation of "Bridgerton [1]" has undeniably captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, marking its place as one of the most talked-about series in recent memory. However, fans should prepare for a shift in focus as the show moves forward. Following the blueprint laid out by Julia Quinn's beloved novels, each season will delve into the lives of a different Bridgerton [2] sibling, introducing fresh romances [3] and characters along the way.

While this means bidding adieu to beloved characters like Simon, the Duke of Hastings [4], it also promises the excitement of new narratives unfolding before us. So, who will take the spotlight in each season? Well, you're in luck because we've got the scoop. If you're eager to know which sibling's story will grace your screens next, read on for a comprehensive guide to the leading characters of every planned season of "Bridgerton [5]". And if you're a fan of the books, there may be surprises ahead, as the writers of the Netflix show have already made some changes in the order...

Who Was "Bridgerton" Season 1 About?

As we all know, in the first season, it's all about Daphne, the oldest daughter of the Bridgerton [7] clan, and Simon, the dashing Duke of Hastings. What kicks off as a phoney romance for both their sakes gradually turns into genuine friendship and love. But even after they've fallen head over heels for each other, their journey to happily ever after is far from smooth sailing.

Who Was "Bridgerton" Season 2 About?

In the second season, the spotlight shifted to Anthony Bridgerton [8], the eldest of the siblings. Anthony declared his intentions to pursue a marriage devoid of love, although it was clear that fate had other plans in store for him. The season introduced the Sharma sisters, Edwina (played by Charithra Chandran) and Kate (played by Simone Ashley), who found themselves entangled in Anthony's schemes. Mostly based on the second novel in Quinn's series, "The Viscount Who Loved Me," the season explored the twists and turns of Anthony's romantic pursuits, and proved that he is — so far — the most romantic Bridgerton sibling.

Wait? There Was A "Bridgerton" Prequel Series?

Yes! "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton [9] Story" landed on Netflix in 2023 and followed young Queen Charlotte's marriage to King George of England. From elegant string versions [10] of SZA's "Nobody Gets Me" and Alicia Keys [11]' "If I Ain't Got You" and more gut-wrenchingly romantic speeches that one could only wish for, the limited series explored how Charlotte and George's epic love story transformed high society in the "Bridgerton [12]" universe.

Who Will "Bridgerton" Season 3 Be About?

Audiences have been told to brace themselves for the most raunchy season yet as kind-hearted Colin becomes the protagonist, as he is in Quinn's fourth book, "Romancing Mister Bridgerton [14]". The series, which is set to be split into two parts, with episodes one to four releasing on May 16th and episodes five to eight dropping on June 13th, will follow Colin's romance with Penelope Featherington, who will also be balancing her love life with her double life as Lady Whistledown. This season will be a friends-to-lovers romance that's already been hinted at in previous seasons, as Colin comes to realise that the love of his life has been right there all along.

So, What About the Future Seasons of "Bridgerton"?

Eloise, the spirited and independent-minded middle "Bridgerton [15]" sibling, will most likely take centre stage in a season of her own, as viewers have already been teased with the hints of a romance between Elosie and Theo Sharpe a working class printer's assistant who fights for justice and women's rights — just her type!

However, according to the book, "To Sir Phillip, With Love", Eloise corresponds with a charming widower and winds up finding a romance as unconventional as she is. That book was originally fifth in the series, and the creators of the Netflix series have yet to confirm is Eloise or Benedict will make season four's main romantic plotline.

Of course, we can't forget about Benedict, as it's granted that the artistic second son will have his moment in the spotlight. Drawing from "An Offer from a Gentleman," the third book in the series depicted Benedict's forbidden romance with Sophie Beckett, a young noblewoman enduring mistreatment from her disapproving stepmother. Will this be the splot of season four?

Then there's Francesca, who is barely a presence in season one, but eventually gets her own story in Quinn's sixth "Bridgerton [16]" novel. "When He Was Wicked", is set to be the basis of Francesca's season, and tells the story of her romance with Michael Stirling, her close friend and the cousin of her late first husband.

In the first season, Hyacinth graced the screen as the astute and observant baby sister, the youngest of the Bridgertons. Her tale unfolds in "It's In His Kiss," where we find her all grown up many years after our initial introduction, collaborating with the charming Gareth St. Clair to unravel his family's secretive journals, and in the process, discovering love.

And finally, Gregory, who, like his younger Bridgerton [17] counterparts, was merely a child in the first season. However, as the series progresses towards its conclusion, he's set to have a tale of his own to share. Quinn weaves Gregory's narrative in the final regular "Bridgerton" book, "On the Way to the Wedding," featuring a whirlwind of love triangles and his eventual happily ever after.
