Harry Styles Joins Adele and Blur in the Exclusive "4 Brits Club"

The Brits 2023 is officially done for another year, and it was Harry Styles's night. As predicted, the "As It Was" singer took home artist of the year, song of the year, best pop / r&b, and album of the year marking the start of a very good 2023 for the former One Directioner, having won the best album award at the Grammys just a week earlier. Wet Leg and Beyoncé both won two Brits, while The 1975, Aitch, and Becky Hill also scooped the top prizes.

Styles sweeping the board even saw him enter an exclusive club, unofficially named the "4 Brits Club". Dave Rowntree, the drummer of Blur, tweeted on 12 Feb., "I'd like to welcome @Harry_Styles to the #4BritsClub. It's been a bit lonely with just us and @Adele these past years. Next meeting in March – you can bring the biscuits". While there are artists who have won many Brit awards over the years, it is only these select few who have stacked up the trophies all in one night. Blur won best british group, best album, best video, and best single in 1995, while Adele picked up best british female solo artist, best british single, best british album, and global success in 2016. If only that March meeting he mentions would really happen . . .

Vick Hope and Jack Saunders announced the nominations on 12 Jan., but the lists were shrouded in controversy. Fans were quick to take to social media to criticise the awards show for the male-dominated categories, with no women up for the artist of the year award. The Brits opted for gender-neutral categories in 2022, but this step forward for inclusivity has seemingly left women omitted. "Thank you to the @BRITs for literally showing everyone that 'gender neutral' literally means exclusion of women, well done," one Twitter user posted. There was also dismay at the pop and R&B category. Singer Mahalia tweeted, "Forget putting us in this category. Give us our own!!!!! How many times do we have to scream at you?" Others were disappointed to see no females nominated in the Grime category.

Despite the controversy, the show was awash with red carpet show-stoppers (Sam Smith and Jessie J, we're looking at you), stellar performances, and afterparty gossip. See all the 2023 Brits winners ahead.
