Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett Is Premiering Soon, So Here's What to Know

13/12/2021 - 04:54 AM

Boba Fett is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe. The legendary bounty hunter has appeared in countless films and television series throughout the franchise, like The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian, and more. While the character has been around for over 40 years, he's never had a stand-alone project until now.

On Dec. 29, fans can catch Temuera Morrison as Boba in the upcoming Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, which will also star Ming-Na Wen as the assassin and elite mercenary Fennec Shand. If you're planning to watch, here's everything you need to know about the show before it premieres this holiday season.

What Is Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett About?

According to the show's official synopsis [2], The Book of Boba Fett will follow Boba and Fennec as they navigate the galaxy's underworld after they return to the desert planet of Tatooine and take over the throne once ruled by Jabba the Hutt.

In a June 10 interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Morrison teased the show will answer questions about Boba's past [3]. "Well, we can't say too much, but we're going to see his past and where he's been since The Empire Strikes Back," he said. "Somebody pointed out he's been kind of stuck in this one place, and now's the time to actually go back in time and check out his journey and find out more about him."

This means fans might finally find out how Boba survived being swallowed by Jabba's Sarlacc creature in Return of the Jedi and how he came to lose his armour.

Who Is the Villain of Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett?

The main villain of The Book of Boba Fett hasn't been revealed yet, but fans theorise we could see the return of Qi'ra (played by Game of Thrones's Emilia Clarke). In Solo: A Star Wars Story, she's a high-ranking operative in the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn, which is led by Darth Maul. Qi'ra becomes Maul's second-in-command after she kills the public face of the syndicate, Dryden Vos. Star Wars comic War of the Bounty Hunters, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, reveals Qi'ra rose to the top of Crimson Dawn after Maul's death.

Fans think Qi'ra will return because they caught a glimpse of Crimson Dawn in the trailer for The Book of Boba Fett.

When Does Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett Take Place in the Star Wars Timeline?

The Book of Boba Fett will pick up right after the events of the second season of The Mandalorian. In the finale's postcredits scene [4], Boba and Fennec return to Tatooine, where Jabba's palace is located, and kill everyone there, including Bib Fortuna, who took over for Jabba after he died in Return of the Jedi.

Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett Cast

Morrison, who's portrayed Boba in countless Star Wars projects, like The Mandalorian and anime series Star Wars: Visions, will reprise his iconic role in The Book of Boba Fett. If the show does explore Boba's past, it's possible Morrison might also return as the bounty hunter's father, Jango Fett, in a flashback. Wen has played Fennec before as well, in The Mandalorian and animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Although there are theories characters like Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Bo-Katan Kryze [6] (Katee Sackhoff), Lando Calrissian [7] (Donald Glover), and Han Solo [8] (Alden Ehrenreich) might appear in the show, nothing is confirmed just yet.

Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett Trailer

Nine months after Disney+ announced The Book of Boba Fett in December 2020, fans finally got the first trailer for the series [9] on 1 Nov. The two-minute clip teases how Boba and Fennec plan to run their new crime syndicate. "Jabba ruled with fear. I intend to rule with respect," Boba says before asking a group of Jabba's former captains, "Why speak of conflict when cooperation can make us all rich?"

It seems not everything goes as planned, however, because, toward the end of the trailer, Crimson Dawn seemingly challenge the duo for control of Jabba's throne.

When Will Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett Premiere?

The first episode of The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on Wednesday, 29 Dec. The show will stream exclusively on Disney+.

How Many Episodes of Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett Will There Be?

Exactly one month before the 29 Dec. premiere of The Book of Boba Fett, the official Star Wars Twitter account revealed the series's first season will have a total of seven episodes [10]. If there's one new episode per week, then that means the season finale will be on Wednesday, 9 Feb.

Star Wars fans will definitely not want to miss The Book of Boba Fett when it arrives on Disney+ later this month.
