Drake Drops New Jams "When to Say When" and "Chicago Freestyle" Ahead of Sixth Album

02/03/2020 - 11:45 AM

New music alert! On Feb. 29, Drake dropped two singles in anticipation of his upcoming untitled album. The new jams, "When to Say When" and "Chicago Freestyle," include the rapper's trademark rhymes about love, wealth, struggles, and success. The accompanying music video, which affixes the tunes together, features the Canada native spitting bars in Brooklyn and his stomping grounds in Toronto. He also pays homage to fellow rappers JAY-Z, whose song "Song Cry" is sampled on "When to Say When," and Eminem [1], whose "Superman" lyrics appear on "Chicago Freestyle." After sharing the video, Drake added the full versions of the songs on SoundCloud.

On Feb. 21, Drake gave an update about his forthcoming sixth album [2] at a Toronto Raptors game. "I'm tucked away trying to finish an album," he said on a broadcast. He then spoke about how the LP, which doesn't have a release date yet, will differ from 2018's Scorpion [3]. "So, last album, I went high volume. It did two sides, 20-something songs, which is a lot of songs," he said. "This album, I'll probably make it a more realistic offering, something more concise. Anywhere, whatever you want, it can be 10, 11, 16. I also do a lot of different types of music so it's tough to make it like a seven-song album or something like that. I'm having a lot of fun right now making music." Watch Drake's new video above, then check out the extended versions of "When to Say When" and "Chicago Freestyle" ahead!
