Eurovision 2020: Watch the UK's Entry James Newman Perform "My Last Breath"
James Newman has been chosen as the UK's entry for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. The singer-songwriter was tapped by the BBC and his record label BMG, which represents Alicia Keys, Kylie Minogue, and the late David Bowie. BBC bosses decided to hand pick Newman after ditching the "You Decide" contest that previously determined the UK's entry through a public vote.
Newman's entry will be a soulful song titled "My Last Breath." With the video set in a snow-covered forest, Newman's song focuses on an older man, played by Dutch athlete Wim Hof, and his dog who shows incredible will power to survive and thrive in the frigid cold. Newman is brother to English singer-songwriter John Newman, who's best known for his hit song "Love Me Again."
After the UK's Michael Rice finished in last place during the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC decided to forgo the public vote that had been around since 2016. Hopefully, Newman's authentic song about the human will to carry on will resonate with viewers and judges. Fingers crossed!
The 2020 Eurovision Contest will take place between Tuesday, 12 May, and Saturday, 16 May, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
