Falcon and the Winter Soldier End-Credits Scene Explained

How That Falcon and the Winter Soldier End-Credits Scene Could Set Up a Second Season

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wrapped up its first season on Friday with a finale that was just as emotional as it was impactful. As Sam Wilson finally picks up the Captain America mantle in episode six, Marvel brilliantly sets up the course for the rest of its Phase 4 rollout. Not to mention, we also see the introduction of John Walker as U.S. Agent, the possibility of the Thunderbolts, and the revelation that the mysterious Power Broker has actually been Sharon Carter all along.

Things with Sharon get even more complicated in the finale's end-credits scene. After helping Sam and Bucky defeat the Flag-Smashers, Sam makes good on his promise to have Sharon pardoned for her role in the events of Captain America: Civil War. Of course, Sam is also completely unaware of her double identity as the Power Broker, which already looks like it will have some serious implications. In addition to receiving a full pardon, it's also insinuated that Sharon might be taking up a job in her "old division." Whether that means SHIELD or SWORD isn't entirely clear.

Then, there's the whole thing with Sharon's mystery friend. After being officially pardoned, Sharon makes a phone call, giving orders to "start lining up buyers." She notes that while "super soldiers might be off the menu," they are about to have their hands on a lot more, including "government secrets, prototype weapons." Yep, Sharon is really going all in with this double-agent identity.

So what exactly does this mean for the future of the MCU? It certainly seems like Marvel is prepping us for another season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, now titled Captain American and the Winter Solider. There have already been rumblings about a second season after the show was submitted in the drama category for the Emmys instead of the limited series category, like WandaVision. Not to mention, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously teased that some Marvel shows would be set up for multiple seasons. With loose ends like Sharon being a villain, Zemo in the Raft, and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's mysterious plans, there is plenty of material to draw from for a second season, or perhaps a few spinoff films.
