Game of Thrones Has a Second Prequel in the Works, and It's Set 300 Years in the Past

Winter has come and gone, but there's even more Game of Thrones [1] content to look forward to in the form of a second prequel series — so yeah, I'm freaking out more than Twitter over that forgotten coffee cup [2]. The newly-announced prequel [3], which is still in the early stages of being contracted, will be set a mere 300 years before the events of the main series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. George R.R. Martin and writer Ryan J. Condal will collaborate on the script for the upcoming drama, which will be based on Martin's two-part book series Fire & Blood (a spin-off from the original A Song of Ice and Fire books that details the history of House Targaryen [4]).

The first Fire & Blood book was published in Nov. 2018, while the second has yet to be released, so we can only guess what terrible fate awaits the Targaryens. HBO hasn't shared further details about this prequel series [5], but I have a feeling we're in store for more dragons [6] and bloodshed than Daenerys could ever have imagined.

In June 2018, HBO announced another prequel series [8] that's set thousands of years before the timeline in the main series [9]. It's set to premiere in 2021, and according to HBO [10], it will explore "the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour."
