Netflix's Halston Limited Series Features an All-Star Cast Playing Real Icons

04/05/2021 - 08:35 PM

The upcoming Netflix miniseries Halston [1] focuses on the sometimes-glamorous, sometimes-messy life of Halston, a groundbreaking American designer of the 1970s. During his life, Halston worked alongside some of the most iconic names in the industry, so it seems only right that the cast of the miniseries is also packed with award-winning and easily recognisable stars. Along with the A-listers who have signed on to portray versions of American film and fashion icons, there are also a few up-and-coming stars for whom this might just be the perfect breakout project!

Ahead of the 14 May premiere on Netflix [2], you can find out who you can expect to see and which icons they'll be playing with our handy cast guide right here.

Ewan McGregor as Halston

McGregor will star as the title character, also known as Roy Halston Frowick, a pioneering American fashion designer of the 1960s and '70s. Of course, McGregor is one of Hollywood's big stars, with a wide and diverse resume. His next project is one that many have been waiting a long time for: he's reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a Disney+ Star Wars TV series.

Rory Culkin as Joel Schumacher

Culkin (yes, the younger brother of Macauley and Kieran) is set to play Joel Schumacher, a filmmaker and designer who moved in some of the same circles as Halston during the '70s. He's kept a slightly lower profile than his brothers, but has worked steadily for several years, recently appearing in the TV shows Waco, Castle Rock, and City on a Hill.

Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli

It's only fitting that a Broadway star like Rodriguez would play Liza Minnelli, the musical film icon! Rodriguez is probably best known to TV audiences for her roles in Smash and Quantico. She also tackled another iconic role in 2019, playing Megara in the Public Theatre stage adaptation of Disney's Hercules.

David Pittu as Joe Eula

Pittu, most recently seen in The Plot Against America, will playing Joe Eula, a fashion illustrator who was creative director at Halston's fashion house for a decade.

Bill Pullman as David Mahoney

Pullman is yet another instantly-recognisable member of the Halston cast, having appeared in '90s classics like While You Were Sleeping and Independence Day up through his more recent roles in The Sinner and The High Note. He'll be portraying David Mahoney, a businessman who was CEO of the mega-company Norton Simon when it began branching out into fashion brands in the 1970s.

Kelly Bishop as Eleanor Lambert

Best known for playing Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls [3], Bishop will portray Eleanor Lambert, a fashion publicist who founded now-iconic events like New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala. Bishop is also an acclaimed stage star, winning a Tony in the original cast of A Chorus Line.

Vera Farmiga as Adele

Farmiga, most recently seen in the miniseries When They See Us and the action movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters, will play Adele in this miniseries. She's got a busy slate of major projects up ahead: she's starring in a sequel to the horror film The Conjuring, plus The Many Saints of Newark and a supporting role on the upcoming Hawkeye series as Eleanor, mother to superhero-to-be Kate Bishop.

Gian Franco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo

Rodriguez will appear as Victor Hugo (aka Victor Hugo Rojas), a Venezuelan-born American artist and window dresser who did window displays for the Halston brand and also was Halston's partner. Rodriguez is something of a newcomer to big-name productions; most of his work up until now has been in short films.

Maxim Swinton as Young Roy Halston

Swinton will play Halston as a young boy, in flashback. So far, Swinton has already begun appearing in guest roles on notable shows, including Blindspot and The Blacklist.
