Season five of This Is Us [1] is finally premiering on Oct. 27 [2] and there's a lot to catch up on. We last saw the Pearson family reunite at Kate and Toby's [3] house to celebrate baby Jack's first birthday. While it's great to see everyone back together, it wouldn't be a This Is Us episode without gut-wrenching drama. We were left frantic over sibling rivalries, heartbroken over Rebecca's health diagnosis, and euphoric over the news of growing families at the end of season four. What Happens to Rebecca in This Is Us Season 4?
It's been a tough season for Rebecca. After being diagnosed with early symptoms of Alzheimers [5], she goes back and forth with Randall about partaking in a clinical trial. She's hesitant because it would take her away from her family for a long time. Eventually, she reluctantly decides to go through with it. Flash forward into the future, we briefly see Rebecca not doing so well in bed as family members come in to visit.
What Happens to Kate in This Is Us Season 4?
Things end on a positive note for Kate. Her and Toby happily celebrate Jack's first birthday after experiencing a tough year [6] navigating his special needs. They visit the NICU to post a family photo on the Wall of Fame. While leaving the hospital, the couple decides they're ready to give Jack a sibling and make plans to adopt a baby. Things seem to eventually work out — a glimpse into the future shows a grown up Jack celebrating the birth of his first baby, with a visit from someone we presume is his sister.
What Happens to Randall in This Is Us Season 4?
Randall was the first Pearson family member to notice Rebecca's memory problems. He takes her mild cognitive impairment diagnosis pretty hard and pressures her to do the clinical trial. Randall ends up having a major fight with Kevin over this and the two say hurtful things to each other. Randall says their dad died feeling ashamed of Kevin, while Kevin says the worst day of his life when Randall was brought home from the hospital. A flash forward into the future shows the brothers somewhat civil [7], but we'll have to see how this intense blowout pans out it in season five. Let's hope we finally get to hear Beth's take on everything that's happened, since she hasn't been too up front with her feelings about the whole situation.
What Happens to Kevin in This Is Us Season 4?
Not only is it Jack's first birthday, but the day also marks one year of Kevin's sobriety. Things have been tense between him and Randall because he doesn't think Rebecca should do the clinical trial if she doesn't want to. Amidst their intense fight, Madison (Kate's best friend) reveals to him that she's pregnant [8] — with twins! We're still unsure of who Kevin ends up with, but in the future we see him wearing a wedding band with a young boy and girl by his side.
What Happens to Nicky in This Is Us Season 4?
Viewers have seen Uncle Nicky [9] and Kevin grow closer throughout season four. He ends up congratulating Kevin on his one year of sobriety, but what's most intriguing about his ending happens in the flash forward. When Nicky visits Rebecca, he has a ring on his wedding finger! Hopefully season five will quickly tell us what this means.
What Happens to Beth in This Is Us Season 4?
Things have been going well for Beth and Randall during season four, but the finale shows us they might not be on the same page about Rebecca going to do the clinical trial. There's some clear hesitance from Beth when Randall brings up the trial. While she's being supportive, Beth voices her concern over the tactics Randall has used to get his mother to change her mind. Hopefully we'll hear a more honest opinion from Beth about everything that's happened when season five arrives.
