ENCHANTED FOREST -- In Walt Disney Animation Studios'

To no one's surprise, Frozen 2 [1] has iced out box office competition, breaking several major records since its Nov. 22 release. Over the five-day Thanksgiving break in the United States, which spanned from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1, the Disney sequel collected $123.7 million [2] (£95.6 million), making it the highest-grossing film ever during the holiday stretch. The record was previously held by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire [3], which brought in $109 million in 2013 (approximately £84 million). Think that's impressive? Well, there's more.

Within its opening weekend, Frozen 2 raked in $130 million (£101 million) in North America, crowning itself the most lucrative animated movie ever released in November. In the UK, it made £15 million [4], a record in the country for an animated film, according to The Guardian.

Even more impressive, the adventure flick [5] now stands as having the biggest opening weekend for Walt Disney Animation films [6], not including Pixar. It also had the best global opening for an animated film ever [7], making $358.2 million (£277 million) worldwide. As of Dec. 1, the movie's total domestic profit stands around $287.6 million (£222.3 million), and its composite global gains are around $738.6 million (£571 million). Now that's a cold front.

It's been a majorly successful year at the box office for Disney. In July, the company celebrated Avengers: Endgame surpassing Avatar as the No. 1 movie of all time [8] after it crossed the $2.7892 billion mark (£2.1562 billion). The following month, the Lion King reboot joined the "all-time" team by becoming the highest-grossing animated film ever, beating 2013's Frozen. But, who knows, if Frozen 2 keeps earning coins, Elsa and Anna might reclaim that throne from King Simba.
