I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here [1] is finally returning for a new series, and it'll once again take place in Gwrych Castle in Wales. Katie Rawcliffe, ITV's head of entertainment, confirmed the news in a statement, saying that "We can confirm today that we'll be returning to Wales for the 2021 series of I'm A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!"
Rawcliffe continued, "We've always said we have contingencies in place for the series if the COVID situation continued to bring uncertainty, and after a highly successful run at the castle last year we're pleased that we can return there. I have no doubt the production team will produce another hugely entertaining series."
There are 13 celebrities heading to Gwrych Castle — 12 official campmates, plus a reserve in case anyone drops out — and on 8 Nov., The Sun revealed [2] a speculative list of stars joining I'm a Celeb [3] in 2021. The list (which ITV has not confirmed), includes singer Frankie Bridge, DJ Naughty Boy, radio presenter Snoochie Shy, paralympian Kadeena [4], and soap stars Simon Gregson and Danny Miller.
Initially, the show was due to return to its home in Australia, but as a result of travel restrictions, it appears that Wales is a safer choice. The last series of I'm a Celebrity was also filmed in Wales and one of the show's hosts, Ant McPartlin, made it clear that he and his co-host Dec Donnelly felt incredibly welcome. In a recent interview with Digital Spy [5], McPartlin said that "There were cardboard cutouts of me and Dec [Donnelly] in the butchers, and the local school did a tribute. We'd happily go back there. We'd miss the sunshine, mind."
